We get a letter but it's mailed to the house so the parents get it first. No level discussion in the letter, just training groups and hours. Level decisions aren't made until the summer session is almost over.

Thank you everyone! Commitment letters state what level the gymnast will be training/competing the following year. They are usually passed out as they are the leaving the gym and going into lUnfortunately our gym doesn't always have an exact score/skill requirement to move up so its hard sometimes to gauge ahead of time. The crummy part is friend is super talented, but fools around too much to succeed to potential.

We have a conference after season, informal updates over the next few months and then a formal letter when it's time to start real routines and not just skills. But you know the level you are before the letter. Just to formalize everything. Maybe there are a few kids who are borderline so the letter makes it official.

And to the OP- as others have said, don't lie. But good advise to consider the others girls' feelings

We don't have a formal conference or anything about levels.
When girls try out for L3, the parent is given a copy of the "gymnastics grade card" which tells what L3 skills they have mastered, are working on, and are doing drills for. If they are close to ready to compete by the end August, they can start competing at the beginning of the season (late Oct/ early Nov). If not, they wait until January.
After Championships, we go to a "no level" system and work "clubs" instead. Of course, the clubs are training higher skills than they have - the next level skills in most cases or fun skills that they can use in optionals (aerials, aerial front walkover, front tuck half, etc).
In August, HC looks at skills and scores from the previous season and heart to determine placement options. If they WANT to repeat, they can. If they want to move up, they are told what they still need if they are going to move up (they were also told in April...so August is an update). Initial placement decisions are made in September, Repeaters have the option of moving up mid-season if they are ready.

We get level letters each year and then you can request a coach meeting to discuss it. I talk with the coaches throughout the year so the letter is never a surprise. Most of us know before seeing the letter, it just makes it official.
