Just curious for anyone in Austrailia, how are gymnasts selected into the idp system instead of the national program?

i am not entirely sure but i think you can go to a facility and try out to see if your child has potential talent. I know at WAIS you have to be between the ages of 6 - 9 years and no experience prior is necessary, This is just what i saw on there website whilst looking for other things and don't quote me on that, i would assume they would also talent scout? this just what i can remember reading

Hi, well first off it depends on the gym you attend, many gyms only offer the national program and put all gymnasts into this program. A lot can be being in the right place at the right time.

Other gyms will be feeder programs, so they will search their gym for their youngest and most talented 4-5 year olds and place them in a development class to prepare them for selection, then the most talented of these will be assessed at a specialist High performance centre where they may be accepted to train.

In our area the High performance centre usually accepts kids from 4-6 years old, they may be accepted older but would generally already have had a higher level of training.

at my dd gym you can just ring up and asked to be evaluated, then they will tell you if your dd is what they are looking for. When my dd was asked she had no experience however she was only 4, but they have taken 8 year olds that were in a low level, so I don't think they only go on skill.
