I'm a second yr level 9 gymnast and I've had 3 broken vertebre for probably the past 3 years now. I've been to 4 chiropractors and have had every treatment imaginable (physical therapy, heat/stim, cold laser therapy, acupuncture, massage therapy ect.) but NOTHING has helped at all. I used to take excedrin/advil ect. to deal with the pain but it no longer has any effect. I reacently took 3 months off after nationals to see if that might help, but all it did was make me lose 3 months of training bc I'm still the same. The pain has gotten so severe I can no longer do bhs on beam or back giants on bars so my skills/ bonus combinations are becoming limited. My teammates do everything they can from new skill ideas to keeping me in the sport bc all my coaches say is "You're a level 9 and you can't do giants or a bhs! Just quit or go to joga!" I've been in this sport for 13 years it's not that easy to give up. Many times I go home crying because I'm sick and tired of having this pain. My mother and i have researched pain managment specialists but they will not treat any one under the age of 18. If anyone has any ideas or pain managment places in NJ they can recommend please do, but my mom doesn't want me to be on drugs to reduce the pain either. I've asked her about getting Cortizon? Any suggestions/comments about that are appreciated as well.
