Ok DD's shoulder is doing much better she was all set for her meet this coming Sunday then tonight she was doing a forward tumble pass and when she landed she hyperextended her right knee. Yup after 4 hours the ER DR said a sprain. Of course we will be off to the Orthopedic Dr in the morning Hoping that it will be good enough for her meet this Sunday but I don't think it will be. I haven't told her that yet I figured the DR can be the bad guy on that one. But she should be ok if its just a sprain for the meet the weekend of the 19th.

Man I thought things were going well but then this - UGH Why can't we have an injury free year.
Her team mate did the same thing last week but she ended up breaking a bone under her knee cap, tearing a tendion and stretching a ligament. She will be out for the next 12 weeks - 6 weeks on crutches and 6 weeks of PT It will probably be March before she can even consider coming back. So I would say she is out for the season. I am hoping that my DD's is just the sprain the ER says it is.

well we have an appt with the Orthopedic Dr at 10 am - I suspect she will be out for the next 10 days at least from gym like she was with her shoulder. Hopeing she will be well enough on the 19th to compete as I'm sure she won't be competing this weekend.

I'll let you know how things go.

Ok back from the DR's She will be out of the gym for the next 10 days so no meet this weekend. He says it is a bad bruise to the knee cap and the leg bone just under the knee cap. He was going to have her on crutches for the next two weeks but changed his mind whe she told him it really doesn't hurt that much when she walks. She will probably miss the 19ths meet too but not saying that again to her let the DR be the bad guy here. The hard part HS tryouts is on the 21st and she want to do that - Lets hope that she is healed enough to try out or she will be crying ALOT more. Basicly no landings on her feet at the gym. He did say she could go to the gym and do bars but she would be taking a chance if she falls and lands on the knee, she could do conditioning and if she is pain free she could try some small jumps from a small block on to a mat. (His kids are gymnasts too so he know how they are). So we will go to the gym tonight as she wants to go and do some of the conditioning for an hour or so and she might work on some low bar stuff with a mat under (hoping she doesn't do it but once down there you know how they get no matter what we say to them) Over all a good report no fractures, rips tears or sprains just some bone brusing. It may take a little time to heal but no PT is necessary for this one as it is just a bruise (Thank God).

for the HS tryouts every team member has to be in attendance including the ones trying out. They did see her in her videos from last years meets and they told her she was already on the team. She will still need to go to the tryouts but it would be as someone already on the team. My concern is where she is new how will that effect them saying she is on the team already. One of the other moms at our gym also has a girl on the HS team and she said tonight that they want her on the team and know that this will be temporary so it should be ok.

I will talk to the coach when we get closer to the date so I know better what the prognosis is for the meet season.
The first meet isn't until Dec 20 so I think it will be fine. DD is a wreck however thinking about it.

Ok as you know DD will miss next 2 meets due to her injury so I asked the coach if she will pick up the "goodie" stuff they give the the gymnasts - her answer got me mad - NO if she wants it they she has to come to the meet and be there at the end when they are giving them out to support the team. Ok its not like we are ditching the meet on purpose. I really didn't want her in the stands with her knee injured and walking around a meet. the one on sunday doesn't start until 6:30 which means we won't be home until after 11pm on a school night and this witch won't get the gymnast give aways for us??!! We paid $100 to go to the thing so its not like we didn't pay for the stuff - UGH why do these coaches do that. The girl is injured she needs to rest the knee. They said the same thing to the other girl who is in a leg imobilizer and on crutches and will be out for the season. 1/2 the meets she can't get her money back on and they won't pick up the goodies that they paid for basilcy unless she shows up. most of our meets are a good 2 - 3 hour drive!! Ok can you tell I'm steamed.

Yes, very annoying and completely unnecessary! And she hurt her knee AT PRACTICE. It's not like she hurt it fooling around on the monkey bars or whatever (not that that should make a difference, but still...). I suppose that, if your daughter doesn't sign in, a goodie bag for her will not be delivered to the team at awards, but still, you'd think all it would take would be a simple request from the coach.

As for the HS team, this is gymnastics. Surely the coach will be understanding about an injury. It sort of goes with the territory.

I agree it is petty to refuse to pick up the gymnast gift.

At our gym injured gymnasts attend all the meets with their team, wear their warm ups, and sit with their team on the floor. Parents of injured gymnasts usually try to get parents of competing gymnasts to take the injured gymnast with them if they don't want to take the whole family to a meet where dd isn't competing. It's the team's culture. I would never have thought that we'd get to stay home and rest but since you mention it, sounds like a nice thing to do! Heal fast!

Flipper the meet this week end is only about an hour away so its "close" (well at least its closer than all the others) but the one next weekend is going to be about 2 1/2 hours a way and she pulled the late night meet again but this time on Sat so many of the families are going to stay at hotels. the ones I would trust with my kid have more than one kid so they would be there from Friday night until Sunday. I don't want to impose that on anyone.

After that if she still is out the rest of the meets are at least 4 hours away or more requiring at least a hotel if not a flight. I hate to spend that money if we are just going to sit in the stands.
