When is a good time to go to a college camp? My daughter is a second year level nine who will be a rising 8th grader and I’m thinking about sending her to our local state flagship just so she can see what it’s all about. I know the camps say 8-10 but do they really only want 10s with competition ready skills? Her level 10/college skills are shaky with the exception of vault and I doubt that will change between now and summer as she’s focused on season now but I thought it might be motivating for her, or maybe it’s a waste of money at her level?

I would say now is a good time for college camps. Its close enough to her recruiting year that its reasonable to start looking at campuses and ideas of college. The camps themselves are pretty low-key affairs. Not all the college coaches attend (there will be a few for sure) but there are a lot of volunteer coaches and current athletes that end up "coaching" the camp. Plenty of different levels tend to be at these camps, so I wouldnt worry about skills being in place. My advice/opinion about college camps is that they are more for your athlete to get the college experience, see the gym, the arena, visualize themselves in that role than they are for college coaches to evaluate talent and potential recruits. There are exceptions, always are.
