Hey!

My DD is a level 6. They never worked on walkovers a lot, although she is quite good at them. 8 days ago, they had a "show" at the gym and she did a row of front walkovers and front limbers. Front limbers were fine, but when she did the walkovers, she said she felt some discomfort in her back.

As I said, there have never ever been any back issues till now.

She says it happened because in a walkover, one side of the back (when her leg goes down to the floor) is bent more than the other one, causing more stress on one side.

Now she feels tender on her mid back, left beside the spine.
It doesn't get worse with exercise, it doesn't really hurt when walking or running, she just feels it. But when she sits for a longer time, or when lying in bed, she feels it and the "cramp" or "aching" runs down the spine to the buttocks.
There is no swelling or anything, but it feels like a tesion when you touch it. It is just beside the spine and runs down, but the tender spot is on top.

What could that be? We are going to the doc asap, just wanted some statement before I get totally insane here!
She has a meet next week :(

CB has a no medical advice policy (can't diagnose over the internet!), but I just wanna say hang in there! I had back pain for a long time, and it really stinks trying to get to the bottom of it. Until you can get to the doctor, I would just make sure she doesn't do anything that makes it hurt. Good luck, I know exactly how you feel!

UGH> I feel for you. Glad you are taking her to the doctor. She should have xrays at the very least. Make sure they understand how this happened.

Are you going to see a specialist or a pediatrician? If your insurance allows, you probably want to just skip ahead to the specialist.

Good luck at the doctor - hopefully it is just muscular, because that can be fixed pretty easily.

If it is just muscular, and there is nothing else wrong that the doctor can find, "trigger point" (muscle knot) therapy is wonderful. I do it on my DDs, and I have had it done to myself twice by a professional. My brother, who is an athlete, does it to himself regularly, and he taught me how to deal with my DDs. It's just a matter of finding the trigger points (muscle knots) that are causing the problem and put pressure on them until they release. It can be very painful at first, but when they do finally release it feels so good! Your doctor may know nothing about it though - you may need to find a sports therapist or do your own research.
