This is my second year doing Level 7 and I have an upcoming competition next week. In the previous meet we had, I fell on beam during my back walkover backhand spring. But in the practices before, I was completely sticking it and was really consistent. In the season last year, I already had problems with my beam and consistency with skills. I’m really nervous for this competition and I’m scared that I’ll fall again and mess up. I felt really guilty not landing because I knew I could’ve done it and even though I’m trying to ensure myself and follow methods to stop myself from panicking about the next meet, I keep suddenly getting very anxious and afraid of what will happen on beam. I know that failure is just apart of learning and that it is okay, but I really don’t want to mess up again. What do I do?

I feel like my nerves got worse when I put more pressure on the meet. Ex. I really want to do ____ at thus meet or I hope I don't ____. I started focus on what I can control. I want to be confident. I want to be powerful. When you focus on thise and except a fall as a fall and that it's ok to happen you will become more confident like you probably are at practice.

You have a few options.
1. Know that you CAN do it ... visualize yourself doing it ... and not worry about falling, but focus on cues that you subconsciously use in practice to do the skills ... and know you did what you could to put yourself in a good space to land the skills. If you do fall, it's no big deal.
2. Just breathe. Pretend you are at practice. Salute. Breathe. Go one skill at a time. Remember to breathe. Think of your cues. Breathe again. Execute. Breathe again. Dismount. Breathe. Salute. Breathe.
3. Freak out over something that may not even happen, but freaking out most likely results in a self-fulfilling prophecy. 99.9% chance of a fall. (100% NOT RECOMMENDED)
4. Just leave the skills out. Make sure you have a solid extra A and extra B in the routine and just take the 9.5 SV.
