My almost 14 year old dd is in her first year competing level 10, and it has been quite a challenging year for her. Although she has her skills on all appratus, she is slightly behind on bars and hasn't been scoring that well on bars. She was quite disappointed with her scores at the past few competitions and it is bringing her confidence down. Has anyone else had this experience in the first year at level 10?

Level 10 is brutal if you are a mere mortal. It usually takes a few years to have competitive success in level 10. Make sure she is competing skills she can do safely. It's better to have lower start values and be safe than to push beyond your limits and risk injury.
So glad ots not just us experiencing this. It really has been quite brutal. Level 9 seems like a different world from 10. She has a strong floor and vault but beam and bars haven't been scoring very high at all. Hopefully next season will be a bit better

Also, Level 10 is unique in that it has competitors with a wider range of training backgrounds and gymnastics goals. For some kids, Level 10 is the end of the road. For other kids, Level 10 is just the beginning. Your daughter is competing with girls who are on (or used to be on) the elite track. Level 10 is challenging not just from a gymnastics skills perspective, but from a competition perspective as well.

Does she believe that she will get better?

As a 13 year old L10... she is in a great spot as she has time to improve and become competitive.

Yes she has confidence in herself that she will improve, however she is frustrated that her scores arent better as they used to be. Her original plan was to try to go elite but that plan doesn't seen to be a reality for her right now.

She works very hard. It never came easy for her, she always seemed to have to fight hard to succeed in gymnastics, and she is extremely hard on herself and so its a challenge :) college appears to be the goal now.
