We would appreciate guidance regarding what should happen in a FIG event if a gymnast starts their routine before the judges are all ready but the green light signal to start was on.

It transpired that ghe officials had forgotten to switch off the light / or change it to red after the previous gymnasts’s routine. After completing their prep, the gymnast saw the green light was on and started.

The gymnast was awarded “0” points and not given the right to repeat the exercise which appeared to be extremely harsh.

There is video evidence to corroborate that the green light was on, but this only came to light after the event.

The FIG is rather incompetent in writing and then actually enforcing their often convoluted rules. From looking at the code - the gymnast has done nothing wrong - but in true FIG fashion the athlete is penalized for the errors of officials.

Sadly the benefit of the doubt was not given to the gymnast when the error was a result of the competition organizers/officials. The fairest action would have been to accept an error was made and give the athlete the opportunity to repeat the exercise.
