Here is what I got back via Email from Gymdiva when I asked about the information on there:

Most of the time a coach or family member submits information. This website is done for free. We do not actively search out information. It was originally meant to be a simple website as a guide for fans going to elite competitions with 50 juniors when less media was available and has since grown. Please view it as a fun honor for your daughter to recognize her hard work and dedication. We will happily remove her if you would like.

I just responded that there might be parents of the younger kids, 11-12 on there, that might not appreciate the birthdays listed (yes it is against USAG rules to post birthdays, I looked it up under the meet rules) or the photos posted without obtaining some sort of consent. I am ok with the information now that I know it is there, but it was weird to just see it there like that! I have a hard time believing our coach put that there for many reasons, including the consent one.

Mymeetscores, meetscoresonline, usag stats from states, etc. you FB and Instagram photos once posted online are public domaine an no one needs your permission to use them. (All photos on gymdivas are credited to the person who owns the Picts though) More over the person who runs gymdivas is a huge gymnastics fan and a woman who has been building custom websites for elite gymnasts for years. The particular page you are referring to is a complied page of girls who have made JO nationals or Western/Eastern champs. I can assure you, if you are offended by your child public information posted on her site she will remove it.

If you are in touch with her, PLEASE suggest to her in the strongest terms that she remove the birthdates of all of the athletes. The year of birth/graduation is plenty of information. Having an exact date out there renders all of these girls much more liable to have their identities stolen. Since she only means well, I'm sure she would feel terrible if something bad happened as a result of information that she had posted about an athlete.

I agree, all the information posted in the gymnast profiles are easily found in the Internet but not all in one site. Contrary to what B&M posted above, I also don't believe anyone in that website goes through great lengths to research a gymnast. They use a software program that pulls out all information available in the Internet. However posting birth dates, photos, general residence of the gymnast all in one site can be problematic.

I can only speak for myself, but I personally don't have a gripe with the website as a whole. If utilized properly, it can be a good source of exposure for the gymnast and a good source for coaches for recruiting purposes. My biggest concern is that anyone can request a gymnast be put in their website without the gymnast or parent's consent. I think that is wrong. In my opinion, they are using these gymnasts to help advertise their business. The more gymnasts they have there, the more sales they will make and the more people will pull up their website and get to know their business. The owner may be a big gymnastics fan and may not mean any harm or may even think she is doing these girls a favor and for the great majority, she probably is. However not everyone supports her belief. As such, a simple consent form, or even a waiver online (within her website) that allows a parent to easily remove their daughter if they so desire would show some good faith effort OR only post gymnasts who are requested by their parents or themselves.

I tried googling my DD's name...If I used her full name, it just brought up my FB page..If I did just her first and middle name though, it brings up a porn star lol...very disconcerting lol.

per USAG, the birth dates are not published. if you see these anywhere let your club owners know and they will work thru proper channels to have them removed.

Sorry, just saw this thread, and it brought up a question in my mind. The bios of the National Team members on the USAG website list all kinds of personal information: birthdates, birthplace, sibling names, likes/dislikes, links to instagram accounts. I understand that the senior national team members are essentially public figures, but some of the juniors are only 13 or 14 years old. I am wondering if, when the decision was made by USAG was made to disallow the publishing of athlete birthdates, was there any discussion about posting birthdates and personal info of young junior team members? I know it is different than the gym divas situation, since obviously the family members of the USA team girls have signed off, but I am curious if there is any discussion about it. Dunno?

yep. the parents have signed releases allowing that to happen. dumb parents. then their kids get stalked. ask Shawn...

Agree that the parents are ultimately responsible for making the decisions that will keep their kids safe. But I have a hard time giving USAG a pass on this one. Just because the parents signed off on it, doesn't make it right for USAG to use these kids(13/14 year old kids!) personal information to help promote the popularity of the sport.

I know my girls info is out there to an extent. Her team gets mentioned in the local papers with winners names, meet scores on line etc...

But I make it a point on sites like this and even my FB page not to use her and my son's given names. Although folks will mention from time time. I figure if she gets good enough to be scouted, it will be at a meet.
