Women gymnastics vs show choir

hi everybody
I am a first year show choir kid and a fourth year competitive gymnastics kid. I recieved an email this morning from my choir director stating that the original competition that we were going to as a team (There are three ensembles) we decided to cancel because of the amount of debt the previous director left us in (approx. 15k) and traveling to Iowa from a state over would be to expensive for our department as we have about 160 of us not including show crew. In the email it also stated that we would be choosing a different competition to go to that is more local with the schedule attached, and boy was I oh so lucky to see it was not only the exact same day as my gymnastics meet but the exact same TIME. As this was such short notice as both of these being a month away, we had already paid the meet registration fees and other fees attached. I am in the xcel program so I know that the program was designed for gymnasts to have extra time for other activities but I had clearly told our director that gymnastics and show choir cannot interfere with each other but regardless we are still having to go to this show choir competition. So my only question is, which is the right one to choose? As show choir is a group performance and activity I could ask if she could fill in my spots with a replacement for me to go to the meet because I already paid the travel and meet fees? Or I could talk to the owners of my gym and get scratched so I could attend the show choir competition with my group? Any advice would be very much appreciated

The meet is already paid for. You most likely won't get that money back, even if you scratch.

There are 160 people in your show choir. There should be someone who can replace you.

When you paid the meet fees, you made that commitment. The choir thing came up more last minute.

All that being said, if there are fewer chances for show choir, you may want to scratch the meet.

Talk to your parents first. Get their input. It is most likely THEIR money that pays for all of this, so they should have input. If they don't have a preference either way, then talk to both your gymnastics coach and your choir director. Explain the conflict to both of them. See who's more open to you missing. If neither or both are fine with whatever you decide, flip the coin and see how you feel about the coin's choice.
If you are happy with it, then your choice is made. Thank you, all-knowing coin.
If you are unhappy with it, your choice is made ... no thanks to you, regular coin.

There's no true right answer here. I know what *I* would choose if I were in that scenario, but nobody can make that choice for you. Talk to your parents, because as it's been stated above, it's likely their money paying for all of this. See how they feel. There's probably someone in show choir who could fill your position, but at the same time, I would be wondering if your director would potentially think you aren't committed or something along those lines if you can't come. That being said, it sounds like your director knows about gymnastics, so it shouldn't be a surprise to them that you're possibly otherwise occupied with gymnastics. I would talk to both your coach and your director. Do you have your state score for your level yet? Is one of your goals to get it? That's another thing to think about. I would also think about what brings you more joy. What you prefer more. Think about like if it were practice, which would you choose? That's one of the things I always considered when thinking about gym vs choir in high school. Again though, strongly advice talking to parents, coach, and director. If you still really can't decide, flip a coin.
