If you practice a double layout religiously 6 days a week with your coach over the course of 6 months straight and have an amazing double pike, what do you think your chances are of moving onto the floor by the end of 6 months and landing unspotted, assuming you will have no more growth spurts?

I spent years working on a double layout and never got it. Had several allegedly-harder skills (arabian double pike, double-double, lay thomas, lay thomas plus), but could never get that double layout.

The injury that effectively ended my competitive career was on a double lay.

Imo there are easier skills that are worth as much or more.

(Sorry to be a wet blanket)

My daughter is a level 10 on a team with 10ish girls and multiple D1 committed girls. They all train double layouts but I’ve only seen one in the last couple years get it on the actual floor. And even then she never actually competed it. It’s a really really hard skill. I don’t think there are any guarantees. It’s also a high risk for injury skill.

Interesting. I didn't realize that. My dd is really hoping to compete it next season as junior elite but hearing this makes me very uneasy about the skill 😅
