Is,driving 48 minutes to gym to much?
I don’t think anyone can answer that for you…is it too much for you? It’s all about what you’re willing to do and what your schedule can accommodate.
We drive 40 minutes each way and it doesn’t bother me too much.

This is such an individual question. For some 48 min would be a deal breaker. For others a 48 min commute is simply part of living in whatever area they live in. It really depends on your family lifestyle situation, overall options for gyms and what the athlete gets out of the deal.

I live in the middle of nowhere. The closest gym to me was 20 minutes away (old gym, litterally in a 2 floor apartment smaller than the size of a normal spring floor), but the gym I go to and some other gyms (not really known for higher level gymnatics, but still have good comp teams) are 30 minutes away. While an hour away are high level gyms that have multiple upper level gymnasts and college recruits.

Personally, the drive for me is a bit tedious (to be fair, I am still in school driving to to the gym there and back 6 days a week either early in the morning or late at night), but it's what is the best available option for me.

Nobody can answer this but you. We live in an extremely congested metro area where traveling 5 miles can take 45 minutes during peak traffic. That said, our current commute is 20 minutes and it feels like a dream (we've had 45 minutes to an hour each way for the four years prior). Although I definitely miss the extra car conversation time with my daughter!

It takes us about 35 minutes when the traffic cooperates, I wouldn't want to go much further. One of the families that we know travel 3 hours across a 3,000 ft mountain pass. That definitely in my "too much" category

I drove my daughter 1:10 each way for 2 years. The drive was one thing, but the question I have is are you then going to be stuck there for 4 hours because you're not going to drive it twice each day. We put 100k on a new car those 2 years and eventually we decided we couldn't do it any more.

Depends what your options are. We live in an area with lots of gyms within 30 minutes so I would probably set my personal limit around half an hour. If we lived in a rural area 48 minutes might be perfectly reasonable. It really depends on your situation and priorities.

You've seen all the answers. It's really up to you. My son has been in gymnastics for 9 years and we moved overseas. I drive 40 mins to 1.5 hours each way to take him to a gym where no one speaks English because that is our only option (until I fix it). I then wait at the gym for 4 hours while he practices. I only have the one child left at home and I don't work so that's a factor. If he had not been doing this all of his life, I probably wouldn't do the the drive. But he is a really good gymnast so I sacrifice for him. Only you (and your gymnast) can make that decision. If you decide to do it, consider audiobooks for the drive and lots of material to entertain yourself at the gym! Good Luck!

I drive 35 min each way 5 days a week. I don’t enjoy it but it’s the best gym for my daughter. We pass 3 other gyms along the way, 2 of which we’ve already tried. As long as she’s committed, I’m willing to sacrifice. She is my youngest and my other is already away in college so if I had other children in the mix I probably wouldn’t be able or so willing.
