This is my first year as a gym parent (as if it wasn't obvious). Our gym just started skills after some heavy condtioning post-States. It is so fun to watch these girls who were honing their routines and looked like absolute machines during the competition season trying new skills. They were stumbling/flopping/falling all over the place. Another parent said this always happens "this time of the year". The mood seems to be a lot less tense now that the competitions are out of the way and the girls are smiling a bunch. It's so fun learning the cycle of these things...

As a gymnast, I love post-season workouts! After months and months of routines, it's nice to have something new. Also, there's a lot less pressure, making gymnastics more fun, even casual. It's good to see that the parents enjoy this time too :)

I agree it is a less tense atmosphere and fun to watch the girls acquiring new skills. I was watching the L6s training L7 skills and it reminded me of how my dd looked last year at this time and how far she has come. She is currently working on L8 skills so there is a lot of stumbling/flopping/falling for sure LOL. She is excited again as she is getting close to conquering new skills.

I really like this time of year, too, and my little dd seems to like it! My older dd likes competition season - she doesn't like the uncertainty of this training time - too many what ifs in her mind - she likes the competition season because she likes the challenge of perfecting her routines. Kind of weird, but it suits her personality. The conditioning really steps up here too so I'm sure that is a real bummer being sore alot, but it comes with the territory, I guess.
