Internal server error message

I have been trying to send a private message and keep getting the "internal server error" message. I've tried it both from work and from home. The first time I got it, I went back and hit "send" again and it seemed to go through, but then I got a message from the person I was messaging and she said that all she got was all of our old correspondances (which I had deleted from the body of my message) but nothing new. I thought maybe we had just messaged back and forth too many times in one "thread", so I started a new message, and I'm still getting the same "internal server error" message! Help!!!

Here is what I have found out so far. I checked our error logs and the "internal server error" is coming from mod_security. This is a security feature installed on our server to help protect us against hackers. Currently, the rule set that we have enabled is too strict. So strict that certain characters used in combination will set it off and block your post or pm.

I am not willing to turn off mod_security as it helps protect our site, however, it is set to strictly right now. I am doing some research to figure out how to fix this issue.

Interesting. Now I'm wondering what I might have said that would have blocked my message! The local community theater has a commedy in their summer line-up called "No ***, Please! We're British!" and I can't call up the theather schedule on my work computer because it says it's blocked due to pornography... LOL!

As my girls are going to a charter school this coming school year where they'll each be given (on loan) their own laptop, I guess I'm going to become an expert on internet security and filters and parental controls and such very soon!

Haha...usually it is blocked due to special characters such as ()"/&:\<'. If you put them in the right order it sometimes creates code that the server doesn't like. Hopefully it is taken care of now...our host made some tweaks.
