Not sure if this is the right sector for this question. I plan to judge next season. I have a 4/5 rating currently. I'm wondering how much judges need to make before having to file taxes. I dont know how many meets I'll actually be able to judge, so I'm wondering what the threshold is so I can be prepared. From what I understand judges are independent contractors but I cant find a clear answer to the income question. Thanks!

I’ll also add that you earn more than $600 from any employer (i.e. a gym that hosts meets), they have to issue you a 1099-NEC and report that to the IRS. So you definitely need to report that income.

Each meet should give you a 1099. Then it’s up to you to report that income. The tax implications will depend on your Tax bracket bc anything additionally that you earn will be added into any other earned income.
