I did gymnastics from the time I was 5 until I was 16.. I could not continue doing gymnastics because I got a back injury and it is painful to even so much as do a bridge anymore. I went to Physical Therapy for the longest of times but that was a fail. My hips are also out of place so that makes any type of gymnastics hard on my body. I miss it so much, watching shows on TV about it just makes me tear up because I know that I cant go back. The best thing I have found that helps me miss it a little less is coaching. I coached young girls beginner stuff and I loved that too. Does anyone else know of anything that I could do so that I could miss gymnastics a little less without being in complete pain because of my back and hips???

this is what you do when you can't do it anymore. you coach! you share your love of the sport with other young children. it is a gift. pass the gift along.:)

i have said before in other posts...i still miss it dearly and still dream i'm still doing it several times a week. i often wonder if those dreams go...don't want to think about that.;)

That is what I want to do, I want to coach. I am going into college and so I will have my afternoons and evenings off and I think that would be a good time to coach younger girls.

I dream about gymnastics nightly and even in the day I still catch myself doing my floor or bean routine through the living room. Gymnastics will never be far from my life. Whenever I sit I point my toes, when I walk I have the posture of a gymnast.. Haha I guess there are just those things that will never be forgotten from my muscle memory! :)

at 16 my son dislocated his knee cap and he too had to stop but he was still able to be part of it because the gym were he trained needed rec class coaches and offered him a job so now he is not only doing rec class but has become the asst. coach for the boys team. He misses the competition but loves watching the boys he teaches succeed. he also teaches a mommy and me class and really loves working with the little ones alot. Maybe you too could teach what you know to some other little gymnast with a dream. call your old gym and see if they have any openings maybe you could start as a backup teacher or work with their summer camp program like my son did when he was younger. He is 18 now and loves coaching.

Thank you so much! This is great inspiration!! I am definitely going to try to track down my old gym.. See it got torn down to build the new high school three years ago and I am not sure where it moved to.. When it went down I had to switch gyms and I am not a fan of the gym that I had to move to (the one that was the cause to my back injury and hip injury). But I know that my old team is still out there somewhere I just have to do some searching to find them. I am also sure that there is a gym around the town that I am going to college in next year. A team that I most likely competed with when I was still in gymnastics. Maybe they will remember me and take me in to be a part of their coaching staff! :)
Thank you again for giving me this hope!!
