UK gymnastics. I’ve been considering moving my child to a new gym after noticing a few red flags. Unfortunately I’m not the first to notice and a few have left recently. As a result all the children have been warned if they trial for another club, they’ll lose their place in the squad. My question is, how do we go about this with that in place? I’m not stupid and know that the clubs will share information of who turns up for a trial, and of course no one knows beforehand if the other gym would want the child. Is it just a risk that needs to be taken? I have discussed my concerns already with the head coach and been told things will not change at this gym. I’m not sure what else I could do other than ask for permission that will equally put my child in equally a vulnerable position. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I don't know if it's different in the UK, so grain of salt.
Are there a lot of gyms in the area? Like if she gets kicked out for a tryout, and doesn't get into the new gym she still has options?
If others are leaving, can you contact those parents and see if there's open space at the kid's new gym and nose around the culture before committing to a tryout?

We've changed gyms twice for different reasons and it's hard already. I'm sorry they've added this into the mix.

EDIT TO ADD: If they're kicking girls out for looking elsewhere I can't imagine they're popular with other gym owners. They have their own culture too. So your current gym might not find out, right?

If the red flags are that bad, it might be worth having your child leave that gym even if you can't find a new gym. It might not be worth the safety or mental wellbeing of your child to stay. I can't really comment on that to know for sure because I don't know what the red flags are but it is something that you need to consider.

Is that a threat?
I mean... wow.

I’ve heavily considered it, but I don’t think my daughter would ever forgive me if we couldn’t find a replacement gym!
