I’m planning on retiring from gymnastics. What are some other sports you would recommend that would use my talents, strength., etc? What are good sports for ex-gymnasts?

Weightlifting is a surprising one, but just like gymnastics is all about strength-to-weight ratios. Various people have done it in the past; in the UK, Amelie Pelta spent a decade in gymnastics, switched to weightlifting full time in 2023 as part of the Sport England Talent Transfer scheme and is now a British record holder and established member of Team GB.

My gymnast tried rock climbing when she was thinking about quitting gymnastics. They invited her to join their team her first day there. The strength and flexibility of a gymnast is great for climbing.

Gymnasts tend to be really good at a variety of different sports because of their strength, speed, endurance, agility, and body awareness. So really its just what you would like to do!

I know at least two gymnasts excelling in Pole vaulting - one at the collegiate level. Diving is another option. Honestly, with the core strength and balance gymnastics gave you, you're poised for anything that sounds enjoyable. Try a few things and see what you like.

My daughter now does track in college - competes in the multi (pentathlon indoors and heptathlon outdoors). For fun we looked up a lot of the multi athletes that she competes against on my meet scores and that majority had competed in gymnastics at some level. She also has former gymnastics teammates competing in college in diving and acro and tumbling.

I just joined dive because of the flips. That is the thing I recommend the most.
