My child wants to repeat level 4 for the upcoming season. I asked her why and she says that she doesn’t like level 5 routines. I don’t want her to be bored with level 5 and do terrible during the comp season. Idk how I feel about this and if it would be beneficial. Her coach is still evaluating her. She had an ok season in level 4. Her scores ranged from 34-36.
Any thoughts ?

That's not really a great reason, but kids are kids. I would facilitate a conversation between her and her coach. Would she be able to work upgrades? Are they open to her scoring out of level 5 with two 36s at level 4 this year and moving to level 6 for the following season?

As a parent, is there anything else you can see that she might not be expressing? Is there a different coach for level 5? Different practice days/times? Are her friends staying in 4? Does she want the opportunity to be one of the better/higher placing athletes?

My daughter repeated level 4 because of scoring low on bars and was so bored. This year she was suppose to do level 5 but just wasn’t into it since it’s not much different then 4 and she still struggles at bars plus her gym doesn’t really do upgrades at all just the same thing over and over. We ended up finding a gym that does xcel gold instead of levels 4/5 and she is absolutely loving it. She gets to work on lots of upgrades and not do skills that she finds boring and it’s really sparked her love for gymnastics again. She will test outs of level 5 next summer and be level 6 so it’s the same outcome. I’d highly suggest this route if you can find a gym that offers it!
