Off Topic robots?

So, I was just clicking around on the site and came across the people online section. There were members, visitors, and robots? What the heck are 104 robots doing on CB?
Am I completely oblivious of the inner workings of the internet? Or do we have that many android gymnasts?

Basically they are not robots, they are crawler programs that search the internet for information of all kinds. email addresses, certain names etc. All sites have them, even 100% private ones.
