This year our Circuit Regional gymnasts are training to compete on six apparatus. They can train a max of nine hours a week, so it will be interesting to see what they look like with so few hours.

The two extra apparatus are tramp and tumbling.

Not sure whether Baby Bog will compete in this system or in the Provincial system, but the regional one looks like a lot to expect from limited hours.

Do any of your programs limit training hours?

Our MDL somewhat limits hours. It isn't written anywhere but it is kind of an unwritten rule that this league is fewer hours than USAG. We had some kids last year at other gyms who were training USAG and doing MDL at the same time and killing the competition with 38+ AA scores. This year they are changing the rules a bit to eliminate this type of landslide victory. But, as far as actually stating how many hours you can and cannot train--that hasn't been made official.

OUr region tried it once a long time ago but apparently some clubs were putting in gymnasts who did lots of hours and saying they did 4 hours fitness, 2 hours ballet, 2 hours trampolining, etc etc oh and 6 hours gym. yeah right. They dropped it in the end.

We have some of that in our region, clubs say they are doing 9 hours, but are sneaking in 40 a week during the summer break (charging $60 a week too) and then comp season starts and they are mega prepared. NOt easy to compete with, opur parents wonder why we aren't doing as well.

We have a similar thing over here too,

As some might know we have regional and national grades from when a gymnast reaches 10yrs old. Again, I don't think it is a written rule, but Regional grades are aimed at gymnasts training around 12-15 hours per week and National grades at those doing more.
Our Novice gymnasts (I think probably in this region only) are not supposed to do more than 5 hours per week. Ours do between 2 and 31/2 per week so well under the allowed times. It is pretty obvious that some clubs do more!

As marie83 says, we have seperate programs aimed at those doing more, or less hours.
I have come across this problem a lot in floor and vault competitions. We have a seperate floor and vault squad training 4-6 hours a week. Some clubs put the 4 piece girls training 15-20 hours in for novice floor and vault competitions and it's difficult. I wish they would try a limit in floor and vault and see if that helps.

We have 3 streams in Australia, The international Stream (Elite), The National Stream and the State Stream.
State and National are very similar but State has restricted hours (10 hrs up to level 8 and 12 hours for 9 &10) and the requirements are a bit easier than National. You can see the requirements and regulations etc Link Removed.

Hours are monitored but it is mostly an honour system and it is up to coaches to be honest about what their gymnasts are training. Most people are pretty good about it but there are always those clubs that push the boundaries!
