Competition leotards should fit sleeker, but since most of your leotards fit you a little more loosely, it depends because you may be uncomfortable in a tighter leotard. I don't think judges can take deduction on the leo unless it's distractingly loose, so I don't think it would be a problem if the child large is only SLIGHTLY big on you. Especially if your gym changes leotards every 2 years, instead of every year (Because even gymnasts grow!). But, if you don't mind slightly tighter leotards, and your gym changes leos every year, you should probably get a child medium.
