When I became a Mom, I never would have though I would hear my 4 year old say...

Kadee: "Mom..I think i sprained my ankle today."
Me: "Sorry to hear that baby. How did that happen"
Kadee: "Well, you see, I must have tweaked it when I landed off balance doing a back handspring."

I know this is probably the least of my worries for her in this sport. But she is only 4, and to hear her say it so matter of fact. You know like, this is what happened and why at such a young age where normaly if they fall down and scrape their knee they scream bloody murder, is just mind boggling.

Anyway, just wanted to share my daughters first "injury". She is perfectly fine now. I think she was right more with the second of "tweaking" it vrs. spraining it.

So what are some of the things your gymies have said that made you pause and think "Where did my baby go?"

Too cute. Glad she is okay!

I am always laughing to myself about the way my daughter talks about gymnastics. Her new gym (though I guess it isn't new, she has been there 9 months!) is great about really telling them where their bodies should be during skills, showing them, etc, and she has all kinds of things she says that crack me up. I have come to realize that she really DOES listen, which is a good thing. :) And I know that though she may not be able to physically do the skills sometimes, she knows somewhere inside how, and it will eventually all come together.

I get a kick out of (or hate sometimes) how they correct every term we use to describe skills, movements and/or events. It's like "Duh, how could you not know that?" My response that I kept to myself: " Yeah but... You can't even put a sentence together yet"

Little one, just turned 7. Was practising cartwheels on the high beam, missed a foot, split the beam, rolled around it and fell onto the mat underneath. Everyone is sure she is hurt, rushing over. Gymnasts jumps up again, says (to herself) 'My hand placement was wrong. It should be like this'. Climbs back on the beam, does 3 more without a wobble and continues with her routine!
There happened to be visiting coaches in that day and they couldn't believe her maturity.

Sounds like you've got a tough gymnast on your hands. Be glad she is learning how to tell between pain that can safely be overcome and pain that needs attention. It is such a valuble lesson.
