Okay, so, about 2 weeks ago, I got over my fear of tricks on beam. No, that doesn't mean I got over my fear of falling. I have only had a bad fall on beam once, but it was a long time ago, so I was a bit scared of falling. I got over my fear the HARD way.
Well, today... the first cartwheel I did on beam was... a disaster. My feet didn't miss the beam, neither did they get on and slip off...
What happened was this: one of my toes hit the beam so I thought I landed it but just as I relaxed, I fell and the back of my leg hit the beam-hard. Then I flew forward and face-planted into the mat.
Everybody was staring at me, expecting me to have, like, died. But I picked myself up and dusted myself off, as the coaches made sure I was okay. And I was fine, it only hurt a little bit- okay, okay, it hurt a LOT. But, like most gymnasts, I have a high pain tolerance so I just shook it off. Actually, it was more embarrassing than it was painful.
Then, later, my coach was spotting me on a level 5 dismount. I don't exactly know what happened then... I was extremely tired, I wasn't really thinking, and that led to another disaster. Instead of staying in a side handstand, I kept going like I was going to do my cartwheel, but I tried to twist off WHILE almost finished with the cartwheel... I ended up dangling on the beam by my legs. I would have, like, DIED if my coach wasn't there.
Okay, so you're probably like, "Alright, you explained how you fell. And...?" Well, when I fell, I didn't feel scared at all. Okay, maybe I was a bit startled, but I wasn't scared. I was wondering if this was good.
You might think it's a stupid question because, well, of COURSE it's good- I'm over my fear! But... do you think this will make me, in the back of my head, not try as hard on my skills because I'm not afraid of falling??
IDK, it's kind of a weird question but... just answer, please.
