I am the parent of a gymnast that is training upper levels. I feel like the coaches "motivational approach" crosses the line at times. It is so hard to be a sounding board to my gymnast, a safe place for them to let out all of the emotions that they have to contain during practice, yet not be affected by it. I'm tired of seeing my child treated this way. I want to pull my child out or at least hold the coaches accountable for things said that cross the line. My gymnast doesn't want me to do anything that may affect their training... and I really do respect that. I want my gymnast to feel safe coming to me and telling me anything. I don't want them to fear that I will run to the coach or owner complaining all the time.

How do you find that balance? Supporting your child emotionally while not getting to emotionally involved yourself?
