Hey, Canadian artistic gymnast here. Im a sophomore in highschool (grade 10) and currently at level 7, but working on level 8 vault, and a feq level 9 skills ( i.e Aerial on beam, toe off front dismount on bars, etc. nothing crazy.) when i was in grade nine i always assumed id go to collegebin canada, but now i know i wnt to go to college gymnastics.

Problem is, i see all the gymnasts that get recruited are like level 9 or 10 by my age. Ive done research, but most sources dont give me anything reliable.

My coach told me that though i am a little late its nothing crazy, and that he thinks its possible for me because i have good work ethic and quote "i know you'll bust your butt for this if its what you want".

I want to just trust my coach, but im a veteran at being stressed :’) pls help

And please, dont tell me ‘you should try this or that instead’. I dont want to know if its likely, i want to know if its possible. If theres even the slightest chance. Because ill take the slightest chance.
If so, is there anything you would suggest i do to boost my chances at levelling up quicker?
Please let me know.

The top potential college athletes who are in your grade who can start receiving verbal offers from US colleges starting June 15th, 2025 are level 10s now or junior/senior elites. The next batch are current level 10s who will receive offers later in their junior years or during their senior years. Level 9s do get recruited from time to time, especially if they have 10.0 SV vaults already and show promise on other events and will be level 10 this winter, or if they are willing to go to a low-ranked, small program. But unfortunately, and you probably suspect this, it is going to be really challenging to get to level 9, let alone level 10, in time to be noticed by coaches and find a roster spot.

To give you context, my daughter is in late elementary school and working towards level 7 skills and the coaches aren’t sure if there is time to get to level 10 for college. She has enough teammates who are level 7s or higher and in 4th-6th grade to fill a college roster. It’s never too late but it’s also important to have perspective on your goals. If you aren’t missing out on other opportunities by working toward this goal, that’s great, but if you are missing out on academics or other high school opportunities, think hard about your plans.

You asked this same question on another post. Unfortunately time is not on your side. The skills you need to be attractive to a D3 coach simply take more than 2 years to develop and perfect from where you are today. If you want a guaranteed path to college gymnastics consider club. This will open more school options up for you too.
