So I’m wondering if there is any chance for me to go to D1 college. I am thirteen and a xcel silver gymnast. My highest skill in vault is a round off half twist off, in bars I have a Kip, clear hip, and I am working on cas handstands and flyways, on beam I have a back walkover back walkover series, back tuck and front tuck dismount and I am working back hand

hey d1 is extrremely hard for anyone to get into. Level 10s , not all are recruited. It's an extremely competitive sport and so many gymnasts and not enough spots. I don't want you to be feeling bad though! There are a lot of things you can do with gymnastics, coaching, club gymnastics, and it teaches you a lot of life skills. I would say to enjoy your journey, and there are a lot of different oppurtnuties that will be available after gymnastics.

Consider this: the summer you are a rising junior, coaches start contacting you as a recruit. Assuming you're currently in 7th grade, that's three years from now.

Now, watch a division one college gymnastics meet and think about if you would have a routine that could fit into those lineups in three years.

Set your sights on club, NAIGC, adult gymnastics, or maybe even another sport at a smaller school. I had never run cross country before I joined that team at my small division three school and it was such a key part of my college experience. You could coach, or even judge, or just take adult gymnastics classes. There are so many ways to stay involved.

D1 would be very hard at this point, maybe D3 or club gymnastics would be a great option for you!

But side note, I think you’re in the wrong level. You should be Gold or Platinum with those skills. You sound pretty similar to the second year Golds and first year/moved up mid year Platinums at my gym.

I wouldn't say D1 is a possibility but maybe D3 or college club is an option? There have been girls who started gymnastics late and have made it to lower D3 schools but you would usually need to make it to sapphire(assuming your gym competes it) or a high level diamond. Good luck!

D1 or not, you shouldn’t be on silver, see if your coaches will petition you into level 6 or 7 for the next season, even it means your score will take a hit, you don’t consistently get full start value, you make compete the “easier” skills, you will at least be on the right track of advancing.

Just to add, it may be an u popular opinion - get your parents to advocate for you, although you are 13 and folks here always encourage self advocacy, parents should also do their job. Convos about future development should involve adults.
