How do you set? My coach says I’m not finished my set and my tumbling is low. How do I fix this? I think my throwing my head back too because i don’t think I can rotate without doing that.
 
Gonna need a bit more detail before I can help you.

What is the tumbling pass? I can give a lot more specific suggestions if I know what skill you're doing.

Assuming we're referring to some sort of salto element, you should take off with your head neutral and your arms approximately vertical, and try to hold that position until you're clear of the floor. Throwing your head doesn't make you rotate, it just makes you feel like you're rotating. With any flipping skill, 90% of the time the best way to improve it is to work it on a trampoline.
 
Look for a spot on a wall that is higher up on the wall. My gym has a line that runs along the wall about 10-12 feet above the floor that I look for in tumbling

My tumbling passes are ROBHSBT and RO layout. Im apparently not finishing my set. On the trampoline, I’ve heard a correction about something about my hips. I’m not sure what it was but something about why i’m not flipping and just going up and coming straight down.

Thanks for the advice, quick question though. When do I know to stop looking at the object? I feel like I’m not flipping until I throw my head back.

You start rotating at the highest point after your set. So you should look as long as you can until you aren't rising anymore and then rotate (this might not fully happen in practice, but kind of the ideal goal)

I should add that I'm also a gymnast and not a professional coach so take this with a grain of salt.
 
Oh okay! It makes sense though. My coach gives me corrections and when I ask her what she means she gets mad at me? Then I can’t apply the corrections when I tumble because I don’t know what they mean, and she get mad again?! It’s an ongoing cycle but I see what you’re saying. Thanks!

This helps!

I'd focus on three things. First arms up. That's the easy one.
Second, see a spot on the wall in front of you, and watch it until well after you're off the floor.
Third, and most important: think about pushing your hips up and forward as you take off. Or, if you want to try a different cue to accomplish the same thing, focus on pushing the floor back behind you as you take off.

This pic shows Simone Biles' takeoff position, which is pretty much textbook perfect; the only thing I'd do differently in the context of a back tuck or layout is have the head looking forward rather than up.
