I think I understand the us system apart from the difficulty of bars. I'm UK zinc/level 5, but I'm confused at how difficult the bars skills are. My current routine is circle up/pullover, cast, back hip circle, cast, squat on catch, baby giant/long hang pullover(?), Straddle undershoot - working towards kip/upstart & sole circle. Nowhere near giant/flyaway so really confused how those are at the same level as the skills I'm doing on other pieces. Could just be my region doing it weirdly (i don't even know whether we're doing nation wide comps or what) but how?!

What are your skills on the other events? It could possibly be more like Xcel gold, where I feel like the bars skills can be below the other events.

Different countries put emphasis in different pieces/skills or the rhythm of progression is different. in my country, for example, most gyms don't have pits/strap bars,...so getting harder skills on bars is quite difficult, so they are usually not required at non-elite paths.

I would say that Zinc (UK) is similar to USA Level 4 skill level wise however there is a big difference between the lowest Zinc requirements and what some gymnasts compete. In our region nearly all Zinc gymnasts will compete 2 x upstarts on bars (kips) which is the same as USAG Level 4 and several Copper gymnasts (the level after Zinc) will have their giants.

Classic Challenge requirements have been written that way to allow for a greater range of skills that can be competed within that level, similar to the Xcel pathway. So you can be weaker on any of the 4 pieces and still compete that level. If you have trouble with backwards tumbling there are other options, etc etc.
