After having a pretty bad fall on my round-off two days in a row, I reached a mental block, and couldn't make one on the high beam for ages. My coach decided then that I wouldn't get to do it at the meet and I should take a 9.5 start value instead. However, that means that I won't have my 2 B skills on beam. I don't know if that is another deduction, but I don't want to take any chances.

Can you please tell me all of the B skills allowed on beam??? Here are some skills I have now, just in case I do have 2 B's:

~Needle kick
~Full turn
~Back walkover back walkover
~Cross handstand straddle down
~1/2 opposite way turn
~Twinkle toes
~180 split jump
~Front tuck dismount

Thank you so much and PLEASE write back as soon as you can!!!!! My meet's tomorrow!!!!

-Lauren

Straight jump 3/4
Front walkover
Back handspring
Press handstand

Back walkover is only an A.
That's about all I can come up with right now.

I need to know skills that are very basic B's that I can do without having to practice them often.

I tried to learn a back handspring, but got scared and couldn't do one on the high beam, so resorted to round offs. So obviously I can't do a back handspring. I can't do a front walkover or straight jump 3/4 without practice either. I don't know how to do a press handstand. I really need help!!!!!

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE DEDUCTION IS IF YOU DON'T HAVE 2 B'S???
(sorry about caps, very very very urgent)

Hi, GymCatGirl--

So far your post has attracted 22 views and one reply, so please forgive me, perhaps the least qualified member of the Chalk Bucket community to provide advice, as I offer a link:

The software available includes an extensive list of skills of various difficulties; although it is designed as a self-testing system for judges, you can click on the "review/run study center" tab to display the skills that interest you.

Good luck. Remember that it takes lots of hard work to reach your skill level. You should be very proud of yourself for the grit, determination, and years of effort that brought you to this point, regardless of how you score in tomorrow's meet.

I misread your earlier post and thought you were asking if those skills were Bs, not that you could already do them.
A 180 split jump is a B.
If you only do one B skill you will lose .5. If the RO was your acro skill, you will be missing the acro requirement for another deduction (.5 I think, but not totally sure on that one).

A missing B is actually only .3. That plus a missing flight element should result in a 9.2 SV.

A few more easy Bs:
tuck jump 1/2
pike jump (these are really easy for some people and really hard for others)

But, really, the easiest fix would probably be to connect split jump split jump.

Wow, really? Are you allowed to do two split jumps in a row and have them both count? That'd really fix things quick for me! Also, then I won't have to change my routine around to make another B skill fit! Please tell me if they are allowed to be the same!!!

Yes, if you connect split jump split jump, both will receive credit. If you wobble after the first split jump, just add another jump (say, tuck jump) before or after the second split jump.

Are you also allowed to have three jumps connected? This is great! It's also something that I can do just fine!!!

Technically, you can connect as many jumps as you want. Level 7 has no composition deductions.

Sometimes it is better to take the drop in SV and do an easier routine well, rather than trying to add in elements at the last minute and performing poorly. Relax, realise its only .8, and you have three other events that need your attention and energy, stressing about one event is a waste of time. If you focus on improving your performance by .2 on each event (2 flexed feet pointed) you have made up for it.
It's just one competition in the grand scheme of things, what is more important is your work in the gym. Keep working those back handsprings, you will get them, the confidence from conquering your fear will be a great boost to your gymnastics.

Sorry, but .8 is a huge deduction for me. I've never had to take a SV deduction before, so this is actually pretty devastating for me. I'm pretty good at split jumps, and they are big enough, just with a flexed back foot, so this will be just fine for me :)

are you trying to qualify for something?

if not then go with the deductions - it's hard to add in an element even one that seems easy to do last min without some practice to get the routine firm in your head. I've seen girls really mess up trying to do that and ended up with huge deductions - more than thay would have received if they just took the deduction. It's ok to get a lower score while you work out your mental block

Unless you have another acro skill ready, you are still going to be starting from a 9.5 for missing that requirement. Better than 9.2 though. If you can do the split jump+split jump- both to 180 (or super close) with less than .3 in deductions, I would say it's a worthwhile switch. But don't get so hung up on the changes that you aren't thinking about the rest of the routine!
Like others have said, it's just one meet and it's better to just get back into the gym and work on those ROs and bhs rather than stress too much about this. I'm sure you'll do great! :)

Thanks for the correction! I thought something sounded weird about it being worth .5, but I was just too lazy to do the math for myself.

Could you ask your coach to help you out with this? It seems overwhelming to have to rework this all by yourself...

I'm not trying to qualify for anything like states, I got a 35.050 at my last meet with a fall, so I did qualify. However, my old gym is competing AGAIN at this meet, and I REALLY don't want to do bad in front of them... Also, I'd like to get a 36.00, and considering that I had hideous bars at the last meet and legs super far apart in my round off on floor, I think that I can improve by one point all together on everything and just treat the 9.5 SV as if I fell. Also, if I get higher than an 8.325 on beam, 8.6 on bars, 8.80 on floor, and 9.35 on vault, then I will have improved on everything. (I got an 8.825 on the last meet, but I'm just assuming w/ the 9.5 SV) So that means that I'll just have to improve by .25 on each event to be fine. That should be too hard! Unless I have a 9.2 SV on beam, that'll just make my job a ton harder.

Also, I'm pretty flexible, so if I concentrate on splits in the warm up, I should be able to hit 180 just fine, and maybe I'll point my back toe for the first time EVER!!! :D

No advice from me, except to stay calm in the meet and don't let all the craziness get to you. Good luck!

why isn't your coach helping you out on this and figuring out your requirements in the first place? i hope everything went well at the meet. :)
