Ok DD is at a club gym but also on the HS team this year. At HS they are letting her do moves from L8 that she definitly has like her giants (she has had them for over a year) but her current club gym hasn't let her compete. She came to this gym able to do giants in her routine but this club has the L7 do free hip instead.

Last night one of her coaches aproaches her and asked her have you competed or done giants in yoru bar routine? She tells her yes and this coach tells her well the owner (also the HC) knows (like we care). So why aren't you doing giants for us? DD tells them You guys won't let me compete them until a baby giant is good and I'm not good at that move so Owner said I can't compete them here. Now the coach says well go over and do the baby giants then. Not the best but done. Coach agrees then she says well lets see the giant - slightly bent knees (strap bar bad habit) but good enough to count and score well. So Owner sees her doing them comes over and says you need to practice these more.

I'm like WHAT???? She has been asking for months if she can do giants in her routine, at practice etc and HE is the one that said NO. She has only been allowed to do them on the high bar over the pit. It was very bizzar and DD felt like she did something wrong.

DD felt akward. So I told her don't feel that way and in the future don't offer details but if they ask about moves etc don't lie either.

Aww what an awkward situation for your DD!

However, I think I've been guilty of things like this in my coaching before - a gymnast has asked me if she can work on something and I've said no. My reasons might be numerous such as she needs to work on a 'more important' skill or needs to perfect another skill first, but perhaps sometimes I haven't communicated these well enough with the gymnast.
I would hope that I'd never just appear to change my mind in a flash though!

I'm glad your DD is able to practice her giants now!

Well, I find it very strange that the gym has the kids compete free hips in level 7 as a general rule even if they have giants. Sounds like maybe it's worked itself out though, in as strange a way as it happened...?

The owner is nice enough but has lilttle quirks like this and a "way of doing things" that is uniquely his.
