My daughter just got a hula hoop and was able to hula for over a minute after a few tries...I am going to thank gymnastics for this probably because of the strong core...it made me wonder what other skills/sports or wacky skills do people feel they or their child was able to pick up easier because of gymnastics?

Well, my kid has been training with much older boys since he was 8, so now he has the skill of fitting in with teenagers. He knows all the latest slang, curse words, and inappropriate jokes. I had to run him through sex-ed early because he knew way too much. He has also learned how to stand up to boys saying racist and homophobic things. That’s a skill that most boys don’t have to utilize in 3rd grade. I kinda imagined that being a homeschooled gymnastics kid would lead my son to be a little bit sheltered but it is 100% the opposite!

I love hula hooping as an adult and used it for shaping for my athletes as well. Feet together and arms up is great for handstand shaping. You can also do it while hanging from a bar.
