I was thinking the other day of fundraising ideas the other day that we can do at our club. Trying to look outside the box as I myself usually just pay the fundraising commitment. In our circle we are all trying to sell the same chocolates, Christmas Wreaths, cheeses and baking goods and it just becomes I will buy yours if you buy mine.

My thought was that we host a competition every January called Snowflake. If we were to actually video every event and then make videos either one for every level or one with all levels and offer people to purchase.

I know quite often people take there own videos, but with seating and people moving around you do not get the best view. It may also be interesting for the gymnasts to have the video of the entire group as they can look back and learn from it as well. Also in our competition you move around with your team so quite often you do not know or get the chance to see who you were competing against or how you stacked up against your peers.

We do have some pretty savy videographers in our gym so having one set up at each event would not be too difficult. Buying blank DVD's in bulk would not be too costly so really the main issue would be the time in editing. In our gym all parents are required to do a certain amount of volunteer hours anyways I think those videographers and computer types would gladly do that for their volunteer time as compared to standing outside in -40 manning the parking lot.

If were had parents pay and sign up for the videos we could have the videos delivered to the clubs of the gymnasts for them to get conveniently.

So now the big question do you think if you were at a meet that offered this would it interest you? If so what do you think would be a fair price?

I'd love that! Only thing is, you might get clubs who just buy one DVD for the club then copy it for their parents. If you or someone in your club knows how to protect it so it isn't copyable then no worries!
Sorry, I'm replying to this on my phone, so can't check currency converter but I'd pay up to £20 for that. I'm sure others would pay more, but sometimes a high price can be off putting. I know when I danced we went to a competition where they filmed all the routines and then sold the VHS (showing my age!) with each individual's routines on for approx £30 and I know my mum bought one!

Great idea, but do check the legality of videoing other people's kids and selling the recordings.

I would pay $20 for just my kid, so I guess more for the entire flight.

Its a great idea. But might be a tough one to pull off. For the reason the other posters listed. I would love to have a professional video of Kadee. They could def get some angles I couldnt up in the stands. I wouldnt mind the other kids on there either. As long as all of my childs events were on there in its entirety. But that would be more difficult as you would have to have at least one videographer at each station. Its a great idea..keep us posted on what comes of it. Forgot, Im like Bog, I would pay $20 for just my child..so maybe $30ish for the whole team.

Also, as just a little "side" thing. If you have a place big enough (wall..ect). Maybe you could sell snowflake shoutouts. People could pay $2 for a snowflake and they could put whatever message they want on it, and tape it to a wall..ect. You could have the girls cut out snow flakes (you know how you did as a kid with a piece of white paper all folded up...so when you unfolded it..all side matched). Just make sure they left the center whole so people could write their message. Or if you could find some white doilies at a dollar store or such that would work too.

I would like the idea of just my kid but frankly , I don't want to watch everyone else's and as someone mentioned, I really wouldn't be crazy about someone selling videos of my kid to everyone that attends the meet. This is done at a lot of the big meets and you sign up ahead of time to have your particular child videotaped. As far as price, for a regular season invitational type meet, I wouldn't pay more than 10 bucks because i could just tape it myself for less. At regular season meets you might not get a lot of upper level optional parents to buy these things but maybe the new compulsory parents would be into it.

Something else to note that in Canada kids only do 4 or so meets a year, so parents are probably open to splashing out a bit more.

My daughter dances in competitive dance festivals in the UK - there is one local festival that has a videographer - and to be honest, the quality is not all that good. He charges something like £12 for up to 4 dances and £15 for more than 4 (prices in GBP), and you receive a DVD with just your own child's dances for that price. As I said, the quality is not good, but I buy every year - it's really funny to look back at my just-turned 11 year old, to see her dancing when she was 6! I am sure that these would sell at a gym competition, and if people only received video of their own child it would cut a lot of hassle re other peoples children/child protection

My daughter's dance studio sells recital videos with everyone's kids on them. If there was a meet video I would buy it!!!!

What a fantastic idea. I would love this, I love watching my team mates routines but am often thinking of how my routine went or running my own routines through my head that I don't get to see them, not only would I like to see my team mates and my own routine but would love to see the higher level girls routines as well, I would pay $20 for my own routines, $40 for my team, and $80 or so for all levels :-)

I think it's a great idea. Here in the States professional photographers have become pretty common at meets and sometimes they will send info on their services out ahead of time and interested parents can submit their child's name/team. It gives the photographers a little heads up of how many are interested and figure out a plan to make sure they get photos of the kids who have payed upfront. They will also set up a table at the meet for parents to watch samples and sign their child up before the session. It might be a little more difficult if you plan on getting videos of ALL the girls and having orders placed after, just because I imagine it can be a pain to ID and find all routines from each girl. But if you have a good system and talented people to work it, I'm sure you could find a way.
My parents did not have a working video camera for the majority of my years in gymnastics so the videos are very limited. Some teammates parents would video me, but technology wasn't what it is today and we never got copies. So I think this would be great for the parents who aren't quite as tech savvy.
