What are the dangers or benefits of skipping silver? How often is that done?

Gold is now considered entry level so there aren't really "dangers". There's a pretty decent jump in skill between minimum bronze and minimum gold, but if you have the skills, I don't see why not. Our gym didn't do bronze at all and some skipped silver and went right gold.

I would say it depends on if your child has the gold skills or not. My daughter was 7 her first year on gold and it was a big jump from silver in terms of scoring. Scoring gets harder with each level that you move up. But, if she has the skills for gold, there is no harm in competing gold.
