When my daughter has a block (we’ve just worked through a 18 month long twisting block, it was rough!) we have found self talk and mindfulness really helpful.
She finds visualisation and telling herself that she can do, has done it before, and that nothing bad will happen is important. We also...
This is true but for us it’s when my daughters are playing around in the garden trying to get a new skill, it just allows them to get some feedback rather than blindly flailing around! I probably wouldn’t use it for meet routines (we do still occasionally use meet critique) but for helping them...
it is AI powered but it’s a model they’ve made themselves that has access to all USAG and Xcel coaching and judging points so it’s definitely got value! my daughter has been using it in the garden to work her aerial, she has an attempt, gets feedback and then goes again and she’s progressed...
you get a certain number of free credits when you make an account, so you get to have a go before you pay for anything (i can’t remember exactly how many free ones you get though!). it’s definitely worth getting the pro though, my daughter uploads so many videos it would cost a fortune on MC 🤦♀️
Thanks for this, some real great ideas in here! I'd never heard of Robert Andrews before but I've just gone down a rabbit hole and found some fantastic things, so I'll definitely be using that! I've also been thinking of sports therapy for my oldest, its great to hear that its been successful...
Both my girls are pretty hard on themselves, and quite sensitive too, sometimes I really struggle with how to help them get through the lows of gymnastics and the negative self-talk, its a tricky world to navigate as a parent, and I hate not being able to really help! The world of gymnastics is...
I think thats very normal, we've definitely been through that stage in this house! Recently Ive got both my daughters using the app called The Vault which is basically like a journaling app for gymnasts. Its great for them because it guides them through journaling and encourages them to...
I'd recommend Lynx Gymnastics in Aylesbury, UK. We took my daughter to train there when we were on vacation in England and it was great. They've produced 2 Olympians and a UC Berkley D1 gymnast.
Splits is definitely a 'use it or lose it' type thing! My daughter has the same thing if she doesn't stretch for a while. Just make sure she keeps up the stretching at least twice a week!

Hi I'm Christine, a mom to 2 gymnasts and I've also recently started trying my hand at coaching at the girls' gym. We have a 7yr old level 3 and a 12 year old level 6, and they are of course super competitive with each other (anyone else struggle with the sibling rivalry when they're in the same...
