When I was younger my mom did spiderweb with little elastics matching the Leo from Amazon. Into a curled ponytail. Now I do my own hair cause I don’t care about if it looks good I care about it feeling normal for me to not mess up my skills. Two braids on each side of face into a low-mod ponytail is my go to so it’s stays in but is comfortable.

I’ve been in the same situation, and honestly, using the right products makes a big difference for a clean, competition-ready look. For hair gel, something with a strong hold but not too flaky works best—especially if you’re going for a sleek ponytail or bun. Look for gels that give a smooth finish without making your hair look too stiff.
For rubber bands, I’d suggest going for snag-free or fabric-coated ones. They hold well during meets and don’t pull or damage your hair when you take them out.
I also found some useful tips and styling ideas on my top looks that really helped me understand what works best for different hair types and occasions. Might be helpful if you’re trying to improve your overall look for competitions.
