My 7yr old daughter started gymnastics at the beginning of this year, instantly fell in love with it and is in the comp team (in Australia at level 2 I should add). Currently she trains 6hrs a week, increasing to 9 next month (which she says still isn't enough for her lol).
We're at a YMCA gym...
If you are a gym parent, this is for you. I stumbled on to Nile and Neil's vlog a few weeks back. They are hilarious, but more than that their relationship is golden. This is an edited version of a talk Neil gave to parents at a gym club. Totally worth watching.
Hi Chalkbucket. I found the site last weekend and have been an avid reader ever since. Lots and lots of good info, opinions, insight!!
DD finished her first competitive season in March - proud to say she was 1 AA, Vault, Bars in the SoCal Xcel state meet in Bronze. She'll be 7 in October, so...
Ok just looking for advice...
I hold my son to a pretty high standard in the gym aside from skills. You respect the coaches (which isn't an issue), follow the gym rules, gym time is for practice not play, be ready to get to gym on time (of course we are sometimes late that isn't his fault)...
Hi,
I need help to decide on the best way to organize our trophies.
My wife found my old medals and trophies that I won for gymnastics in the attic. It was shoved away due to some reasons. Now, I feel the need to make a place for it. My son is doing great and contributing his shares too. So...
My husband follows this journalist and I guess he is now a gym dad. Thought it was a good article that all of us can relate to. Warning- there is profanity in the article.

Hi,
A neighbor is looking to sell an incline mat at a very good price. At home DD only works on coach approved skills, conditioning, strength and flexibility (and only when she wants to).
I’m sure the mat will be sold quickly but I’m not sure I’ve got any use for it. Seems like it would be...
I’ve received (and appreciate) the consistent advice here to keep gymnastics in the gym and I’m sure that everyone’s personal/parenting/coaching experience is correct. It’s just hard to say no to my DD.
When DD wants to practice her skills at home I’m mostly steering her towards conditioning or...
Does anyone else's husband have an issue with how much time the gym life takes? We have 3 on team. With their training schedule, which of course doesn't coincide yet, volunteer commitments, and now I have thrown my name in the hat for a board position, my husband is furious. It is not...
We had a long day of volunteering at a home meet this past weekend. After 12 hours, another mom and I went home and our husbands came to do clean up etc. They were chatting, and trying to figure out if our daughters knew each other. The other dad said his daughter's in level two. My husband said...
Hello all,
My wife was a level 9 and my two girlies, ages 5 and 6, are now in gymnastics. I only know what the wife tells me about gym, So as any good husband would do, I joined this forum to learn on my own!
When I am not carting the girls around I build software. Naturally, I would also be...
My wife received an e-mail from another gym parent yesterday. This mom said that her daughter (a year younger and a level below mine) was having one of "those days" and didn't want to go out on the floor. She said that my daughter took about five steps onto the floor then turned and took her...
So here are the facts:
My daughter is 4 1/2 years old, and we live in [city], CA.
She's been at [gym] for around a year and a half.
She was in the toddler class, but her former instructor asked us to advance her early because she believes she is talented and ready for whatever more advanced...
When I was little, my dad always thought I would grow up to become a soccer pro. I always wanted to go out in the yard and play with him, and he taught me all kinds of things about the sport.
Then I started to grow out of it before I was in 5th grade, the year I could join the school soccer...
I have heard so many parents and coaches refer to some gymanstics Mom's a "CRAZY GYMNASTICS MOM". :confused:Heave you even seen fathers at their son's football games!! OMG..shocking. I have seen them yell at their boys and coaches from the stands, leave the stands to go on the field to yell...
Hi everyone and apologies for snagging the title of a post below mine, I just couldn't think of a better way to describe myself that didn't sound like an AA meeting intro. I'm a single dad who's 9 year old daughter has been doing after school rec gymnastics through our city. She's started at an...
My dd saw a dad wearing a really cute t-shirt at a meet that said something like...I don't do the cartwheels or the flips, etc. I just pay the bills (obviously not an exact quote; it was worded a lot better). She really wants to get it for her dad for Christmas but I haven't been able to find...
Just wanted to say hello from the show me state. Father of an 8 yo level 6 gymnast. We'll see. She has been in gymnastics since 3 1/2. She made level 4 summer of 09, moving up to 5 in January of 2010. She moved up to 6 this past summer, and may possibly move up to 7 after the new year. The...
