I was curious about the ages for the hopes meets. I see that it is 10-11 and 12-13. But what are the age cutoffs? Like the birthday? If someone is turning 13 in say March, are they eligible that whole year b/c they were 12 on Jan 1st, is that where 12-13 comes from ? Or the day they turn 13...
I'm new at this level how do you get started with hopes/tops. Is there a chance of a gymnast being recognized without being in tops or hopes.
How do you deal with a gym when you express interest in those things but they are stuck on competing levels..
Can some of you explain the tops/hopes program to me? I thought it was sort if like a "supplement" that is used in conjunction with usag, for young gymnast who seem to be talented, but after reading the other thread regarding the system, I'm thoroughly confused! :)
So after two years of injuries and training and will she or won't she test, Sophia successfully passed her HOPES compulsory and optional test in Vegas.
Comps were 36.5 (needed a 33) and Optionals were a 53.5 (needed a 49)
She broke her big toe mid january and her routines were modified to...
A bit of a rant. But why when meets host qualifiers do they have live scoring for every single group but the HOPEs and Elite qualifiers?
The fact that I can follow my friends L9 for year after year, but the minute it is Hopes or elite then nothing.
I have noticed this for a long time, it is...
Always love this blog, but being in the midst of my daughter retiring right now brought some happy/sad tears as I read this tonight:

With the 2015 TOPS season approaching, I created a social group for parents of gymnasts that will test for TOPS. If you would like to join, let me know and I will add you!!
I am really hoping that I'm not overreacting. But I'm hoping some coaches who train girls going this route or parents who's kids go this route can shed some light on this.
After several trials, my dd has finally settled HOPEFULLY at her new gym home. She'd expressed the desire to go the elite...
i thought it might be fun to start a thread so we can share our gymnasts year long progress and hopes for next year.
Youngest dd
Dd is now 8 and has been in her development group nearly 1 year and has been training twice a week for 8 months, she has become stronger, faster and more flexible...
A nice win for Team GB, just looking at the scores. The juniors coming through are looking pretty good! Glasgow should be good in December. I hope its streamed on GB TV again.
My daughter is very interested in training the elite route and doesn't really care about JO. Right now she is training both, and it is hard for me to understand the benefit of training both at the same time. She will be competing in the spring and learning JO routines. Would it be beneficial...
I noticed the other day that there are new HOPES modifications (dated 6/2) posted on the USAG website (under the Qualifying meet information). The previous modifications are still posted on the TOPS/HOPES page. Has anyone heard of changes for this year?
I can see that there are wording...
I'm trying to understand the age rules for HOPES gymnasts. My daughter is going to be 11 prior to the HOPES Challenge this year, however she will be 12 before the end of this calendar year - so, will she compete with the 10-11 yr olds or the 12-13 year olds?
My daughter will turn 11 next year and will be testing for the Elite Compulsory and Optional Qualifier next year. Since 11 is within the age range of both Hopes and Jr Elite, if you score high enough for the Jr Elite cut off can you still choose to compete as a Hopes athlete in the Challenge or...
I was wondering if the physical abilities testing for TOPS is the same as the testing done at the developmental and national team camps? What about levers? I know they are not part of the TOPS testing but our team does them with their TOPS conditioning. How high is the rope climb for TOPS vs...
