Looking for advice for my 9 yo. She loves gymnastics but has a tight body (hamstrings and upper back) She won her level 2 vault at both of her meets (60 kids) and placed 3rd and 4th on bars. She is strong, powerful, but not flexible. She has been stretching a lot for the last year and halfway...
My coach asked me to suck in my abs core when doing cartwheels. Doesn't that lead to a stiff body and feel kind of like robot? In basketball and softball, a relaxed body leads to a quicker/smoother motion rather than being tight. Just trying to understand this concept.
Whenever I do my left leg splits, my hamstring feels tight. I know I am flexible enough to do a full over split on a panel mat with my left leg, however, if I push past a certain point in the split, it feels like my hamstring is popping and a tingling sensation travels down my leg. It is a weird...
I would say that not staying tight is the one major problem that 99% of our team girls have. So, I have been trying to hit this pretty hard, especially the last couple of weeks. So, this is what have I have been doing:
1) explaining that tightness has a feeling, while a loose or bent arm/leg...
Reading through a recent post on bridging and some related older posts got me thinking...
My dd7 really struggles with bridging skills. She can't do a kickover without a light spot or her feet raised a bit. So obviously can't do a back walkover, and at her gym the walkover is taught before bhs...
My gymmie appears to have very tight hamstrings which may be affecting her ability to get her legs completely straight on pull overs, leg raises, etc. I never noticed until tonight when she was goofing around at home and stretching her legs. Is this common? I did some reading and it could be...
Just curious, our head coach prefers the girls wear their leos so tight they look painted on. She loathes "baggy butt syndrome", particularly for comp leos. This does not bother my daughter, but there are other kids for whom it's a problem. One girl in particular I'm thinking of: she is the same...
Before I joined CB, I thought we had a little prodigy on our hands. My middle child (7) is a fearless little tumbler, super flexible, really good on bars, and is a constant blur of motion. She has ADHD but has come really far this past year behaviorally and in terms of working hard on team...
Can back tucks (or tucks in general) be too tucked/tight?
When I do a back tuck, I am
really tucked tightly.
But when I watch videos of meets, on instagram where people do RO BT or RO BH BT most of the time they don't tuck that tight. They grab their kness and their legs make a 90 degree...
My 8 year old is suddenly having a lot of trouble with slightly bent legs. The coach says he is getting tight in his hamstrings despite stretching at gym. I asked my son about it and he says it does feel tight. His groin is also tightening up. His dad's side is amazingly NOT flexible in those...
I recently was working with our gym's level 3's and 4's after being out of the gym for a while and noticed that we seem to be drastically lacking in the hollow body department. Even my tightest girls seemed to be having trouble maintaining the tight, rounded-back form (especially on bars) that...
How tight are they supposed to be? I got them in today and I'm afraid they're too tight. They fit really snug. I wear an adult medium Leo and I got child's medium warmups because they ran really big. Like the jacket fit my coach. But the pants are a little too tight around the hips. What should...
Hi all, I'm new to this group and have a silly question. My dd is level 3 and has all the skills for a while now, but she is sloppy. Her coach says she just needs to tighten up. He says she has the strength and skills, her knees always look bent slightly, and overall just sloppy. Is there...
This isn't a serious medical issue or anything, but please let me know if this goes too far into medical advice.
I am now a sophomore in college but I ran cross country my senior year of high school and I was also still dancing. I managed to pull my hip flexors on both sides in dance (not at...
Hey everyone! It's been quite a while since I have been on here, but I could use some major help.
I teach young kids, around the ages of 5 up to about 8. I have some beginner kids and some advanced kids combined into one class. The advanced class is my normal group and I do perfectly fine...
With regards to a six year old, what does "tight shoulders" mean? I'm assuming that it is a developmental thing, that comes with time/progression, but I'm not sure.
Last night at gym, one of my coaches told me I seem to have a "tight back" while doing back limber kickovers (for me, heavily spotted because I can't do a back bend for anything).
What is this supposed to mean?! Any thing I can do at home to help my "tight back"?
Any suggestions to help a gymnast who really stuggles with form. She has very long legs and arms and is very thin ( eats well but only seems to get longer !!) and is hypermobile.
She has a really hard time staying tight - she always looks loose like a noodle. When told to be tight or...
My question is can a gymnast be taught to stay tight or is this something that comes more through body awareness, experience or ..........
My DD really struggles with this and it frustrates me a bit because I have not seen a lot of improvement here. She is constantly being reminded to...
