on top of this chaos, poor Puma is still on crutches (though he went back to work Monday...sigh...) and can't drive, Puma Sr's play is in three weeks and she's buried in practice, and I had a race Sunday...the crazy life of the Pumas! LOL
Glad to hear that Puma is back to work, hopefully back to Jiu-Jitsu soon (if he still wants to). Did you say how the race went? I thought you had said it was the same weekend as JO States (all that stress for nothing ;)). Now that she's in USAIGC, JO States don't matter anyway.

IGC is a great choice! I'm certain the Puma cub will love it. Pea was looking to switch (pre injury), gym has both and she LOVES the IGC coach.

I have only been to one meet to volunteer, so my perspective is limited, but at this meet bars were definitely lower. My feeling is that this is a hard event for lots of kids strength wise and this is where you will see the less hours show itself. The girls who scored the highest on Pea's team were the new to IGC/just left USAG girls. On the plus side there was lots of cheering and a big push for team awards. Lots of kids were leveling up as event specialist and they felt great getting to help the next level team get their team award. Have fun this weekend and get ready to cheer!

"IF"?! Omg he would die without Jiu-jitsu....lol He has at least 8 more weeks without it though and he's not a happy Puma. I PRed my race so I'm thrilled, and the weekend of L5/6 States is a different race. Lol That one is a relay. But yes, USAIGC New York North States are a different weekend in May. Yeah! (Man, you have a good memory....)

I love that this is something Puma Jr wants!!! Good for her!!! You are leaving on a good note and she could possibly find her way back to JO. My DD just found a note I had written to her 2 years ago when she was struggling. She was joyous at meets and gym and I was so proud! My DD was struggling and I told her slow and steady will often win if she just kept working. That she was winning in life already! Puma Jr is following what she thinks will work best and should be commended on the courage it takes to change!!! Dont go to far, I want to to hear how the transition goes!

Congrats and good luck! We are considering something similar (JO to x cel) which would require a gym switch for us too so I will be following Puma Jr's season! Curious, what was her schedule/hours before and what is it now? While my DD claims to want the high amount of hours I can't help but think fewer hours would be good for her right now.

She was doing 16 hours over 4 days (a 3&1/2, two 4s and a 4&1/2) and now it's three 3s so only 9! I was a little leery about that but the new HC says there is zero down time and Puma Jr has found this to be true! There are only 7 in her training group so it's a lot more one on one as well. We're only on day 9 here so I'll keep you posted, but so far she's finding it refreshing and thinks she's getting a lot out of those hours.

That's great. 16 is a lot (DD does 12). We would be looking at 6 if she switched -which is a similar drop to Puma Jr's I guess so I'd love to hear how she likes it after some time.

I was hoping for 12, but we'll see how this goes! I think when she moves up to Silver (which is a bigger jump than I thought!) that they go 12. I'm taking one day at a time though....

Wow, 12 is a lot for non-JO -even at a higher level. Not that that's a bad thing in my opinion, just surprising as I thought the idea of these other non-JO programs was to allow kids to do other sports, etc.

I could be wrong? Maybe that is for the Golds. I have a lot to learn, but I'm excited for her!

Our gym goes 12 hours for Xcel gold and 16 for platinum. Which is a lot but I suppose less than the 22 and 24 hours a week the equivalent JO levels go at our old gym.
Xcel is not the same as IGC. IGC actually has guidelines for levels. And while Xcel and IGC use some of the same names for levels they are not the same.

My daughter has been a 3 day 3 hour girl, until very recently. At her gym there is no downtime. They work their butts off. It's not quantity, but quality.

I know?? The poster just up from me said 12 was a lot of hours for non-JO, even at a higher level. Xcel is also non-JO, so I was just chiming in.
I knew what you meant! But thank you @Deleted member 18037 for clearing it up for those who may not. Puma Jr did Xcel Gold in between L3 and L4, but USAIGC Gold is like L7/8ish, so big difference. I will be very interested to see the upper levels this weekend. The Silver/Gold/Platinum session that I'm volunteering is at 7:30am Sunday...the day after the Syracuse St. Patrick's Day Parade that I pretend is my bday party...I'm going to try really hard to NOT be new-hungover-mom...LOL! It's going to be a loooooong weekend!
