I have states in around two weeks on a sunday, but the problem is that I also have an upcoming track meet which is just as important to me on the friday before. My track coach really wants me to attend this meet. Yet it’s also important in my gym to be at all the practices before a meet. I really want to attend both the track competition and states on sunday. Would it be possible or will this risk my performance in both competitions?

My current gymmie is in TRACK, GYMNASTICS, and COMPETITIVE DANCE right now.
She has had times when she had a track meet in the morning and dance in the afternoon OR gymnastics in the evening. This season, she will have her Track Conference Finals meet the same day as her most important dance competition (her ticket back to Dance Worlds, this time as a high school senior). Her plan is to do both.

At my gym they say if you miss a practice during meet week and it’s not because you’re sick you have to make it up. Maybe see if you can come in to practice on a different day that week

Unfortunately there is no “right” answer to this question. Each decision has many pros and cons. You will not be able to satisfy everyone’s expectations, so I strongly recommend that you chose the path that will make YOU the most happy.

If your really want to attend both meets, I think it’s low risk to go to both. You have already put in all the hard work preparing for Sunday’s competition, so anything you do on Friday (whether you attend the track meet or go to gymnastics practice) will likely have little impact on your Sunday meet. Just make sure that you rest a lot on Saturday if you choose to do both meets.

Now, if you have not had good attendance in track or gymnastics, then I can understand why your coaches would be disappointed in you skipping a meet/practice. But if your attendance has been good, then any reasonable coach should support you in your decision next weekend (whatever that may be).
