I was wondering what the heck you could have been talking about... I always felt funny even saying that my "DD took 1st all-around at level 4 states" because to someone who wasn't familiar with how it works, it sounds like my DD was better than every other level 4 gymnast in the state (which she most certainly wasn't). I always felt like I needed to explain that there were two locations for states, and that each location had many sessions, and that each session had many age groups, so actually, my DD came in first out of the girls in her age group out of the girls at her session (and she lucked out and didn't have any of the "high powered" teams in her session) out of the girls at her location. But I guess some moms would feel no such sompunction to make sure it's clear exactly what it was that her daughter won...

Do not minimize your DD's accomplishment. She can only compete against those that are placed in front of her! She is a state champion, and THAT is something that will never be taken away from her! Enjoy each accomplishment large and small, and that one is a large for someone her age! You don't ever have to justify or explain her victories!

Thanks, Cheese...
I'm super proud of my daughter... for her accomplishments in the gym and for who she is as a person. I don't want to belittle her accomplishments, but I don't want to overinflate them either... or start counting on her getting a full ride to Penn State on a gym scholarship! ;)

I know you're proud and didn't mean to say that you weren't! You wouldn't be posting here if you weren't crazy proud of your DD, like we all are! I know how it is, you don't want to brag on your daughter, you want to be humble and you want you're daughter to be humble! I so get it! It's ok to brag a little! A state champion is a state champion in my eyes, especially when there's so many levels and age brackets. I just say my little one is a Level 5 state champion instead of saying she's the Level 5 Junior A1 State Champion.....that's a mouthful!
