Do you have gym in the summer or take it easy?
What does your gym, if anything, do at the end of the year?
When did or does your school end for the year, and when do you start again?

I am taking all of July off due to a sore heel, and hopefully going back in August. But normally at our gym we are required to do 36 hours spread out over the summer however we want. I am trying to condition at home though, and keep busy.
For the end of the year we had awards, funny ones for everyone and serious ones. I got Athlete of the year of all competitive girls. And before that we had free time in the gym and a inflatable maze on the floor. Our coach also made a power point to show every event this year, and say good bye to all those that are leaving us.
My school technically ends on June 29 or 30, but my last exam is on the 24th so that is my last day. I start up again September 1.

I feel bad that you only get 36 hrs for the whole summer! Our optionals have a max of 30 hrs/week! I'll be doing 25/week because I got a job babysitting one of the team girls and her brothers....errk! I'm nervous since I haven't done a lot of babysitting before. We had an end-of-year banquet but it was kind of lame because it was raining so we had to stay inside, and I didn't win anything. I didn't have a very good season this year, so...

Our school ended on June 2nd, but then again, we'll start up before August 20th. Our school doesn't do anything special except for the graduating seniors...but summer is always fun. I think I'm going to start a board game league with my friends, just to stay busy. Of course, I've got looooots of gym to do, too...sometimes the older girls will take everybody to the pool after practice, so that would be fun. I don't know if they'll still do it when we practice from 8 am to 4 pm, though!!! (we do get an hour break for lunch)

I hope my coaches are okay with me going on vacation...actually, I'm writing right now from Beijing. It is so cool, I just had to mention it! I still can't believe I'm actually in China, even after the 12 hours plane flight. I have to miss practice, though I can let my sprained foot heal/heel.

At max, competitive team can only train 9.5 hours a week in the summer! I'll be so gymnastics deprived! It goes up for the lower level girls (8 hrs. a week) and goes down for higher level girls (11 hours to 9.5). I don't know what I'll do without my 5 hour practice!

We go all year - summer hours start in a week on the 20th. Summer is 18 per week of practice over 4 days where the "school year" times are spread over 5 days a weeks with same number of hours. You don't get a financial break if you are planning on being on the team in the fall and you are expected to attend the summer. If you take off the summer and you aren't injured or sick there is a chance that your spot on team may not be there when you come back in the fall. The summer is the time when the team works on those new skills for the next level, learn new floor, beam, bar and vault routines then you practice them in the fall. I've seen girls take the summer off only to come back in the fall having lost skills and not able to come back to team. We usually start the fall schedule after Labor day. The week coming into Labor day is usually closed at the gym so they can to the fall cleaning and set up for the fall.

For the fun stuff Our team does things planned by the booster club through out the year but at the end of the year they have a Pot Luck banquet with music, food, recognitions, coach appreciations, and a year book for the gymnasts. It basicly is a photo sized book that has a spiral binder. Each level has a team photo in the book with a photo of each gymnast and some statistics they provided. Like favorite meet, best event score, best AA score, funnest thing, etc. We parents provide the photo of them from a meet of them doing something gymnasticly and that is the photo on the page. We just assembled them this past week and they are really cool. Each one went into a little canvas bag with ribbon and the girls name. The coaches info is more funny than accurate.
This happens this Friday so it's my first one and from what the parents say it should be a blast. Can't wait. Everything that the boosters do is with the permission of the owners and the owners usually will participate and provide things for events too. I am told in the past they have had the whole team up to their lake house to camp out at the lake. I hope that happens soon I would love that.

Over the summer because we are in an area where folks come over the summer to vacation we have alot of options of fun things to do and I know last summer various dates were arranged by the parents of the booster clubs to have get togethers, BBQ's, trips to local amusement park, trips to the seashore or local lakes, etc. Some parents hosted sleepovers etc.
