Well my Father IN Law has been in the hospital since the 23rd. Had a drug reaction to new meds now they are trying to stablize his blood pressure but DR's say he will be fine in a few days. Definitly not coming home today with 15 - 22 inches of snow that fell last night and is still falling.

Anyway the nurse he has is a mom at our old gym. She was also a friend and when her kids were little they came to my childcare/preschool. Well she says she is very unhappy with the gym this year. They came the summer of 09 from one of the other local gyms. Her DD is a 13 yo L7 like my DD is. This season they got new leos and warmup suit cost just over $600!!! and the Tuition was doubled this year from about $400 a month to over $800 a month!! She also said there is a click of the "favorites" and her DD doesn't seem to be included or made to feel part of the team by the other girls. They aren't mean to her and they do talk to her but don't really include her in stuff. She asked how we liked the new gym and Hubby went on and on about how much better it was the coaching was so much more positive and as she saw at the last meet DD improved dramaticly over the last 5 mo and has been uptraining. They are cheaper than old gym, have a booster club that is very active and raises lots of money to help defray the costs of meets etc. They are very understanding about missing practice for school work and events we have to go to etc.

We suggested she call them and check them out. She lives near us so we know it's a do-able drive. I hope she leaves and comes our way. Her DD actually has alot of talent and would do well at the gym we are currently at.

I hope that leo has real gold threads and that for $800 a month that each girl has a private coach because those prices are just .
On top of that, the girls social situation sounds sad. Maybe a move is just the thing she and her family needs. If they are close to you then perhaps you all could car pool as well.

Hope your Father in Law is better soon, and the snow stops falling so you can get him home...

Cher062, I hope your FL gets better soon. How much snow did your area get?
Also, $800 a month? Wow!? For level 5/ 16 per week we pay $320. Opt. Team pays about $450/mo. I think the pre-elites may pay about $500/mo. and they are there about 12:30-7:00. Your prices are unbelievable. Is that comparable to other gyms in your area? What is the cost of living like in your area? I ask because I am so shocked by how high the prices for training seems to be in other areas. Parents at our gym complain because we pay more than other gyms in our area. But what helps is that if we are members of the Booster club, it absorbs most of our costs.

$800/mo is insanity for L7---well any level unless your in serious training for 2012. I'm surprised more parents haven't left with the cost of new leos/warm ups on top of that. I know we couldn't afford $800/mo---don't know who can.

Ummm, $800 a month I would just walk out right then. I hope they got some misinformation or something maybe. Even from the most expensive parts of the country I've heard of (parts of CA) the most expensive tuition I've seen has been $450-500, for L10 hours.

If she lives near you, you could also carpool, if they feel the drive is a bit far. One of you could drive each way then you'd only have to make the trip once.

Sorry to hear about your father in law i hope he gets better soon :) As for the $800 per month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we pay club membership at the beginning of every year (not sure what it costs) then pay $7 per hour so for our squad its $350 for 11 hours and this year we were paying $280 for 10 i think (it might be $6 per hour). Sounds like the time too move given the situation with the teammates i hope everything goes well with the move if she decides to make it. :)

We got about 15" but that really isn't too bad it's the high hurricane type winds that we have that are bad. It's just blowing everything back into the roads etc.

we only pay 350 a week for 18 hours In our area that is at the lower end of normal. The average is 350 - 450 the old gym was at the 415 when I left in June but my friend says they did a 100% price increase which brings it to a rediculous level. I'm sure they will have a mass exodous soon with those prices. If I was still there I know I would maybe pay one month while I looked around but I couldn't afford that. And the Leo and warm up suite all at the same time no way. They also don't have a booster club to do fundraising. They haven't done any fundraisers since my now 18 yo son was about 6yo. Don't know how the parents left do it.

FIL is doing ok they just can't seem to regulate the blood pressure. When he is still (laying down, sitting even standing) its ok but when he goes from one to the other his pressure drops. They are keeping him tonight, I am assuming if they can't figure out what is happening he will be there for the next few days. Of course this stubborn old man is now lying to the Doctors because he wants to go home. Saying he feels fine and no dizzyness at all. but the nurses know the truth.

First--I hope your FIL gets well soon!!

Second--$800 a month?!?! OMG--we'd leave before the first payment was due--no matter how much DD loves gymnastics! We pay $420 a month for 20 hrs a week. No clue what the average is around here though (haven't checked into it--we're happy where we are).

Sending best wishes to your father in law as he deals with all of this, what a crummy way to spend the holidays. Hopefully the doctors are able to figure things out and get him out of there quickly.
As someone who trained at a gym with two very distinct team "groups", one which was very highly favored and one which was just tolerated, and where little interaction happened between the two groups, it's a really bad situation. The girls who aren't favored know it, and it can really do some damage to feelings of self worth. It's really unfortunate the gym has created such a situation for these girls. And for that price, they should be getting a pretty perfect service provided for them. Hoping for all the best for this family and any others who might be struggling at the old gym.

Your FIL sounds a lot like my Mother! Hopefully the doctors can pin point what is going on and you can all get home. It has to be tough to be in the hospital at this time of the year. And the weather being what it is to top it off doesn't make things better I'm sure.
It's a beautiful sight when I look out of my window and see snow blowing, but we did not get anything like 15" here. That has to be an incredible sight! But a totally different deal having to drive in those conditions. Stay safe!!
I am very grateful about how DD's gym runs their booster club. Working the huge Chicago Style meet really insures that, at least for the time being, all expenses are paid for. This year they even absorbed the leo and warm up fees. That was so awesome!
The old gym must be looking to close their doors quick with those horrendous prices! What could they possibly be thinking? At $800 DD would have to move on to another sport if there wasn't another gym at a lower price. Wow! That still sounds shocking to me!
