Hello all

I would like to ask about the arms position/arm swing in the beginning of jumps (leap/straddle/pike jumps/ split leap etc.).
If the arms position starts behind back, or it is required to start with the arms by the side of body, and the folowing motion continues with one arm moves foreward and the other arm moves sideways, while the gymnasts jumps in the air.
Thank you very much for your advice, and sorry for my english :)

For a single straight jump, arms start down by their side (this is just how we teach it, it is allowed to start slightly behind the back) and then swing up to their ears and stay there EXCEPT when being the first jump in a connection, in that case they would start the same way, swing up to their ears , then as they come down, come out to the side and then back to their side for the next jump.

For split jumps, we teach them to start it the same way but allow a little swing for power as long as they don’t begin to drop their chest. Arms swing up and press back to a low V or high T. Form they’re they some out to the side and back down to their sides.

Twisting jumps are a whole different thing though. In these jumps you start one arm straight in front of you and one arm to the side. You do a little swing from here and use your arms to generate your twist. How your arms go while doing the jump is subjective to the gymnast in my opinion but I bet there is a “right way to do it”.

Many thanks for your answer About arms positions. Could you answer me tje position in dismount in straddle from balancing beam, i guess is same from side to ears. I have one more “problem” with position of back leg in cartwheel? I mean after hurdle the gymnast supposed to go right in the cartwheel or make the T-Shape and than continue.
Maybe you have a video, thank you very much for your help I appreciate it. Im a new coach trying to learn correct technique.
Thank you very much,
