I have been taught to coach my beam warm up including duck walks, however originally I was supposed to encourage stay low to the beam with good posture, shoulders back, arms up. Now I am being asked to encourage hopping with each step to get their shoulders over their hips. If their shoulders are already over their hips when staying low to the beam, should I still encourage the hopping?

Then why does my boss want the gymnasts to hop??
Have you asked them? Are they just wanting them to have a bit more bounce to the movement? Personally I would be careful with them - can be hard on legs that are not physically prepared.
