I’ve been planning to compete diamond in the 2026 season and my first meet (intrasquad) is in December. My skills are still on low beam, my passes are still on a bouncier surface landing into a mat, haven’t landed my vault yet, and I don’t have a bars dismount or my skills on competition set. It’s not just me though. My whole team of 15 girls doesn’t have the skills we’ve been training since summer.

Hmmm yes that sounds like you and your team are behind. Is there a possibility your coaches don’t want you all to compete diamond and want you to continue at your current level? How many hours a week does your level train?

But also if your team focuses a lot in the next month you could all be competition ready!

My coaches want everyone to compete the next level, but repeating platinum before diamond is more common at my gym just because people don’t end up getting all their skills. We train 15 hours a week.

I really hope I can compete diamond though!

I see that quite often on my son’s team. I think that they pace it that way on purpose, so the boys don’t get bored and lose interest before the end of the season. It always seems to work out just fine. Everyone just kicks into high gear in November/December.

At our gym, it seems to alternate one season behind, one season on time. This is a panic season, at least from my perspective as a mom. I’m trying to stay quiet and not say anything. I’ve seen too many seasons that started with a January scratch and ended with a state championship or 2nd or 3rd place, so I know to keep my mouth shut. But it’s hard not to panic!

My daughter’s best season came when she was still learning her choreography over Christmas break at home next to the Christmas tree. I thought I would have a heart attack but it all worked out.

If it makes you feel better, my OG was still creating her floor routine the night before her first meet of the season (her first season as an Optional).
It all worked out in the end ... a little rough, but even Elites are planning to PEAK later in the season. They often do easier skills early in the season and put the harder skills in as they are ready.

My level 10 doesn’t have any tumbling passes on the floor yet, she just did a full bar routine for the first time last week, and hasn’t done her beam dismount in over a year, let alone added it to her routine. First meet is 2 months away so there’s still a little bit of time… trying not to stress. Our coaches also typically build on skills as the seasons progresses.
