hi,
i have a big fear doing bhs and switch leaps on beam, because im scared of rolling my ankle or hurting my wrists. im a level 8, but three years ago i sustained a stress fracture from doing a bhs on the low beam, from kind of landing half off. How can i prevent hurting my self? or get over my fears? is it common to roll ankle on switches or hurt wrists? any advice, stretches, drills and strengthening exercises would be great. i dont really remeber how i hurt my wrist, or it hurting before i did it (the stress). i only remeber that it was a very minor fracture and i competed probably three months after it happened. im not scared of splitting the beam, ive done it plenty of times. but the thought of doing a bhs and crunching my wrist is terrrifying. or rolling my ankle on a switch.
I have other acros, like aerial and round off, but i want to become more verstile and do bhs to upgrade things like dismounts.

Do back handsprings in places you feel comfortable! on a floor line, up a panel mat, on the laser beam, and work your way up. Work drills for bhs on beams that aren't the full skill. Act like you are learning the skill for the first time. I'd say the same thing for switch leaps. Do it where you are comfortable until you think you can handle it a little bit uncomfortable and take it from there. One step at a time.
