My daughter is 10 she is pretty underdeveloped sometimes she wears a sports bra under her leo at practice. They are getting new competition leos which are black lace on top and we were instructed to get a black bra if they are going to need them. She has never worn a bra with her competition leo before. What kind of bra and do you think she needs one. At what age do the girls start wearing them for competition? And do they make black bras for 10 yo.

How far down does the lace go? It seems like the ones with the clear shoulder straps or a neutral color would be better? Otherwise you can probably get a scoop neck style bra in black. A nude tone would be easier to find though, I think, in the style you'd probably need for a leotard.

Thats what i was thinking gymdog. Nude would be alot easier to find then black. You should check target, kohls, justice, and any dance suply store. How often does your DD wear a bra to practice?? Has she said anythign about needing/wanting one for competition. I would go ahead and buy one, because she may wake up on the day of the meet and decide she wants to wear one. I didnt start waring a bra in competition until 7th grade.. better to have one on hand then be suprised, and even if she doesnt end up wearing it for competition she will have an extra one.

Personally, I wouldn't be worried about getting your daughter a bra for competition considering she is underdeveloped unless you find that the lace is too revealing. I didn't start wearing a bra ('actual bra' if you like that isn't a crop top) until year 9 i think (i am also quite underdeveloped) so unless you feel that she needs a bra then i wouldn't bother.

geesh...i can't contribute at all on this one...completely off my expertise reservation.:)

If she doesn't need one , then don't bother....on the other hand, if she does need/want one, my daughter has gotten a black one (Champion brand) at Target.

If she is underdeveloped then really my question is why have her wear one if she doesn't need it? If my DD could go without one she would.

I would say a girl needs to start wearing a bra in general when she has developed the "equipment" that requires a bra.

If she feels like she needs a bra, GK has good nude colored liners and bras, as would any dance store.

If you want a sports bra, black is easy enough to find. If you can't find one in her (small) size, buy a white cotton one and throw it in the washing machine with a pack of black RIT dye.

If she feels she needs one go ahead and buy her one and she can decide the day of the competition. GK and other dance wear stores prices can get pretty expensive, so I would go look at wal-mart, kohls, or target because they have some cheap ones in small sizes.

Thanks I have not seen the leo yet we are getting them this week and competition is next week. My daughter says the lace goes down far in the front so I am not sure. I asked her if she wants one she said I do not know so I quess I will just find a cheap one and let her decide. I remember in that movie stick it isn,t there a deduction if your bra is showing I quess the black will blend in with the black lace.

Usually those "lace" on the body are lined with nude fabric already and you can't see a thing.

If she doesn't need one I would not worry, most of our girls never need a bra under their competition leo even when they are 15 or 16. If the are an A cup, as most gymnasts are a leotard should hold everything in place.

My dd's comp leo was mesh on top (no liner) last season so she needed a clear strap and I found one cheap at Target in the girls section. I would go with clear rather than black because you will definitely see a black strap but you won't see a clear one.

As for when she should start wearing one, well I feel that if they are asking and they want to wear it let them because if it helps to make them not feel insecure than it is only a positive. On the other hand, if she has never asked to wear one and doesn't need one, then who cares what the gym is saying don't get something she doesn't need or want!

If it is the same color as the leo or their skin color than there is no deduction - that goes for panties too! ;)

They should not wear purple panties with navy blue pokadots under a red leo - even for an in-house meet! God, I was so embarassed - she knows better! I swore the HC was going to throw her out of the gym if she saw them....

I understand what you mean. :) I have an 11. She does not have enough to fill half an A cup, but has started "budding". Under leos, this causes "headlights" to show. This makes her embarrassed. We went to a dance store who helped us pick out a bra-liner that took care of this problem. The other girls on team had the same issue. Hope this helps. And it is in a nude color so it blends with the skin.
